No racing today for me as internet has been down since yesterday lunchtime! Just got back up on line now. No riding this weekend either so a nice enforced rest, back on Monday.

Well that was very good fun!! Still feels completely bonkers doing it in the daylight. Nowhere near as immersive or atmospheric.

TFC is mass start so I made the front group selection off the line. It was Watopia Hilly reverse which I've never raced before. I don't think reverse courses were an option for race organisers even last time I raced.

Anyway, made the mini selection through the rollers still in the front group. Hung in until the climb too.

Then when the proper sort-out occurred I was out the back but managed to pick up a small group just behind.
T.Tieirmont missed this selection and I knew he was a contender so holding this group became a priority.

We worked well and typically the ODZ guy was vocal in encouragement so I joined in with a few 'good team work' etc comments.

Every lap we would go as hard as we dared up the hill whilst keeping together. Soon the group grew and I think we ended up as a 7. I knew it would be a last lap hill attack that ended things so I wished them well over the bridge and paced myself up the climb.

Haven't looked at ZP yet but Zwift results said 10/54! Yay, one point! Doh- it's not real ๐Ÿ˜†

Thanks! Having regrets about the final hill. Talked myself out of it as didn't realise one guy was a B. I had time to survive a major blow up but I didn't risk it ๐Ÿ™

Cheeky silver on a short race today: https://zwiftpower.com/race.php?id=7239

Not bad considering I'd done the park run this morning and just had breakfast an hour beforehand 8)

That went well! Made a break 6km out and caught a few nice drafts, next thing you know I had 7s on guy behind and the other 2 were history. Pulled out a bit more and took the win. Its my first actual win on screen.

I've also just noticed, my first laps of watopia flat were 19m 32s and 20m 33s, today's lap was my quickest to date and came in at 14m 51s. Hard to argue with that!

I had a whinge at the lads I was riding with today, I rekon I was on the front for 75% of the race distance. It was amusing off the line as I gunned it down the pier as usual and had a 4s lead, I thought for a minute I was going to solo the whole race, but they came back and we had some fun actually.

I know I said I was going to race Bs, but I've not been forced up yet, so I'm going to glory hunt for longer. I'm hoping zwift power gets sorted later as currently only showing 1 finisher on results, its not me ha ha.

I guess this is a fitness/training question, but as per topic of the title, i'm hoping it's OK in here. It's not techincally Zwift specific, but certainly related.

I'm currently 3 weeks away from a trip to Andalucia for MTBing 7 days... I've trained massively for it, so feel i'm at as good a place as possible for it. My weight is down, my speed is up..

But i have a problem... I'm REALLY struggling to not ride, often it's Zwift due to convenience, but day after day i say "right, rest day tomorrow...." however, tomorrow comes, and there i am, either outside or around Zwift knocking my legs into oblivion.

It doesn't seem to be affecting me other than tired/stiff legs... but i was wondering about when i should call it a day and take 3-4-5 days off pre-trip. Should i bother taking days off to rest them ? Train up to the day before ? take a week off.... or ?

Fatigue is fitness so some level of tiredness shows you are pushing your bodies limits. But feeling tired legs every ride is a sign you are probably doing too much.

If you care about your performance on holiday then a 50% cut in volume the week before, whilst still riding at the pace you think your holiday riding will be, will undoubtedly make you stronger for your trip.

It's not a race so ultimately just do whatever you fancy as the adrenaline of being away somewhere cool will get your legs going anyway.

We expect full detailed ride reports of course ๐Ÿ˜€

The problem is, not knowing where to draw the line. If i stand up now, i get the groan inside me of "oooooh that's a bit stiff". But then later on, if i jump on the bike, the performance is there and fine. Apart from the bonking incident recently but that was a different story IMO.

So the big question now is do i go glory hunting in C tonight in 2nd base race lol. It's potentially a DQ/enforce move up..

Rest is not going to do your fitness any harm at all. You are unlikely to make any gains by riding every day for the next three weeks, well certainly not any big gains. I would taper off the activity in the last 7 days and then nothing for at least 3 days till you go that way you will build up a buzz for riding again by the time you go.

Oh yes i managed to finish fourth in the WBR RACE at lunchtime and finished in under an hour! It hurt quite a lot though.

I wouldn't do nothing, just have a gentle spin each day in the 5ish days up to your departure. Doing nothing will just give you heavy legs IMO.

Well tonight for the first time in 2 months I'm on the Isaac as its now mine all mine! I've been running on the parkwood on a hybrid tyre at 75psi. So will be interested to see what results I get on this with better pedalling geometry and a more appropriate tyre/pressure.
I'm doing the 2nd base race at 8pm. Mate is doing D race at 8.02. My job is to catch and lap him!

Nice resting there weeksy ๐Ÿ˜†

I did a race earlier, was brutal and I got dropped just over 2/3's in ๐Ÿ˜ณ Had to solo it from there (circa 9km)

Annoyingly the guys who were pulling the front group were dq'd: https://zwiftpower.com/race.php?id=7139

That was an epic race! 10 of us riding like lunatics.
It was volcano ccw, I think only one lap it was that I never beat my circuit PR, lap 5 I took 15s or so off my best ever lap.
I was finding it hard at times on the little kick ups as we were 5.5+ on them, up to 173bpm which puts me deep in the red zone.
With 1.4km to go I had a truck power up sitting there and used used, gained 8m clear but the lads were strong. Up the last incline I lost 2s to the lead few, tried my best from 400m out with a 5-6w/kg but was only enough for 8th place. Couple of possible DQs but 8th in my book. Cracking race and proper work.

Nice rest day.

Tomorrow I'm off to see Reading v Fulham with my lad, so will actually be rest day

Hope so, we go mostly to Liverpool games, but a few of his classmates and us have gone to Reading games, so thought we'd jump on this. Tickets are insanely cheap compared to premier league games so its rude not to go to this one.

I thought the truck one only works when you're drafting ??

I guess, but it gives you the extra speed in the draft which then drives you through, I went from 10th to out the front in short order.

A couple of them had feathers for last incline.

Provisional results has me 3rd after DQs removed. But it was fun whether you accept it as 3rd or 8th

Been off Zwift for a bit had a go tonight, however it was all a bit weird!

I took the crank magnet off my speed/cadence sensor recently when cleaning the bike and somehow lost the magnet from inside the rubber holder thing. So I only have the spoke magnet. Tried it on Zwift and it seemed to read speed ok from that without the crank magnet. However, in the race the power output was jumping about all over the place and didn't seem to map to what I was doing. But weirdly, on the mobile link app, the watts seemed right and did seem to map to what I was doing but didn't match what was on the ride screen. Not sure if it was a glitch with Zwift or if not having the crank magnet was the reason? Ended up bimbling round for a few laps. Will look at getting a replacement magnet. I guess any will do?

great result - still in C or have you been busted ?

I had an hour spare tonight so did a workout without much warmup. Got a full-on cramp driving to pick the kids up from gym straight after ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

(and cheers for the thumb, whoever that was - didn't see in time)

Weeksy - cheers for the ride on!

I wasn't really in the mood for a ride tonight, but decided to have a short ride & ended up attempting to up my ftp score. Now up to 217w - dunno if that's good or not, but it's slowly going up, which has to be a good thing!!

Should probably weigh myself soon and update my profile, because I haven't done since Jan!

I'm still a C scaredy, I'm close to being booted and I'm in honesty a little disappointed I didn't get booted tonight. But I enjoy the Cs as I'm battling all race with the lead bunch generally, which makes it more fun of course.

TBH weeksy, if you don't get forced up I'd maybe stick with the Cs through summer - struggling to stay with small groups when you're at full bore up a hill isn't much fun - and TTing in either behind or in front is just a chore

I mean, races like that sometimes make for intense short ( ๐Ÿ™ ) workouts but aren't that enjoyable

Hello, newbie here. Joined zwift a few weeks ago and I'm hooked, also been following this thread for a while so thought I would say Hi. I saw a couple of online tonight for the first time, scaredypants and somebody else(sorry forgot the name) in WBR 2.0.
I race in B cat general towards the tail, I'll try and do some races with you'll.

Hello Craig, it's a bit addictive isn't it.
Also a B cat back marker so may see you there.
Don't know if any of the regulars can help but I've noticed in my results that power source has changed from ' power' to 'zp'. Don't know what difference this make or why it has happened as everything pairs up as it always has.( Misuro b+ sensor) Any ideas gents?

@singlesman - ZP is used for someone who doesn't have a power meter or smart turbo, i.e. They're using a dumb turbo trainer.

I'm not sure on your setup though as I'm not familiar with the Misuro b+ sensor.

I'm split between the 11:15 KISS race and venturing out to Hillingdon or Richmond park - decisions decisions ๐Ÿ˜†

Rest day today here.... No, really... really honestly... well... unless i get home early from work... No... Rest day.

I noticed when bored and browsing that the winner of last nights C race has basically won or silvered in his last 20+ races lol. I thought i was doing well picking up some trophies but he's taking the C catagory to a new level of winning.

Thanks Nathatan, think it is classed as a smart trainer, just doesn't have the variable resistance facility.
Always used to come up as 'power,' but has now switched to 'zp' in the results, very strange!

When you first start up your zwift and go to the "pairing" screen (as below), do you get a choice of options on the power source section?

Hi Scaredy, yes, that's the screen that comes up, spin the pedals and it lights up power, cadence and I have a Bluetooth HR monitor so that lights up as well.
Nothing has changed here it's just in the results that the power source has changed to'zp'. Bit strange but I don't suppose it really matters, I just didn't want to be getting unrealistic power figures.

Nice WBR 3 lap hilly event. As usual it was slightly lonely as the Bs just leave me for dead on the climbs, caught 2 riders back who'd destroyed me and managed to stay ahead of them, one guy we swapped places another 3 times until i did him and left him on the rollercoaster bit after village sprint.

All good fun though ๐Ÿ™‚
