Not sure what though, aiming for the 6.35 XRS race

XRS race looks good; I like the Classique course plus it's an uncategorised race which I prefer. I might end up doing that but will probably aim for the Team Italy race @ 17.40 as it's a bit earlier.

Can you help with a question please?
I've tried a couple of tides and one race, but I can't follow what's going on!
There appear to be riders everwhere, at junctions they head in every direction and others join from every direction!
Above some riders a name tag appears- does signify they're in the same event as you?
Loads more confusion, but help with this would be a start!

If you ride an event, the only people on your list on the right hand side will be people in your event. Their time ahead/behind is the only people that matter.
You can still draft other riders etc but they're not in your race.

For me, i just concentrate on that list more so than anything. You'll get used to knowing who's riding with you and who's just out riding.

You get used to it when someone comes next to you time and time again and you're in a group, you'll start recognising their jerseys etc. As you see them move past you on the list, you can see who's coming past you on the road.

All of this of course requires you to have the power of sight and concentration at that time, which depends on how hard you're going of course ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, but to be clear the name appearing above a riders head isn't significant?
Next question is about sprints- I'm never aware there is one till it's over! How do you know there's a sprint coming up?

No, some will be in your race, some will not... there doesn't seem to be any logical reason who/why.

Sprints you'll get used to knowing where they are and when they're coming. But unless you can put out 1000w you won't be troubling the top 5

How do you know there's a sprint coming up?

usually a white line on the road and a banner up ahead.

on watopia its just as you go into the tunnel after the village.

in a race you don't get the big countdown banner though during a sprint.

The sprints are annoying because the finish is well marked with an arch but the start just has a barely visible line on the road! You basically need to memorise where they are. I found it handy to download the PDF maps of the courses that are available on Zwiftblog (also useful for learning the courses).

Thanks Zilog, that's what was confusing me!
Regarding the course, do you do anything when you come to bends/corners other than keep pedalling!

nopes... .unless you want to change direction/route. Any slowing will actually slow you... Your speed won't change if you pedal as you are..

Ok i did my first race with the new smart trainer (no more digital epo times from now on). I did Evr race this morning but i am confused as to my timings. It reckons my ftp is now 330 and 4.19 w/kg on ZP, is that based just on that race or my riding history. I put myself in Cat C and i finished middle of the pack as i expected but i was beetroot red by the end. Also how can i tell my times for boxhill as i did it twice and i am interested to see how much slower i was on lap 2?

Confused. 330 and 4.19 should have you destroying C cat.

Its based purely on that race/effort, that is assuming it updated today

Yes i am confused too weeksy, something just doesnt add up. I think i finished the race with an average of 2.92 w/kg according to ZP. I will do a few more races and see if it averages out at all. Still getting used to the smart trainer ways and a bad chest infection but i dont think i will be troubling cat b for a long while.

ZP is notoriously optimistic on first results. What does Strava measure you at?

Also confused, not meaning to sound harsh here, but racing today was mid 9s but your best is a 6.40?

where do races actually finish on the london classique? I'm guessing its lead out to the mall banner and then three laps to finish on the mall?

I'm not sure what to do about Zwift racing at the moment. I've just sent my power meter back so I'll be using the Vortex = 5w/kg+ ๐Ÿ˜†

Which is annoying as I really enjoyed my race on Sunday - really made me push myself. I may stick my weight up to 75-80kg or something to get under the 5w/kg....

Weeksy that 6.40 time was on my dumb trainer with the resistance turn down (cable broken) so essentially as far as i am concerned its digital cheating and can be ignored. I was in top gear doing an average of 105 rpm just to give you an idea of how unrealistic it was.

Nath, do you calibrate your Vortex after a good long warm-up? I may have asked this before, but mine is not so very far out if I give it a serious warm-up before doing a spindown.

Well thats the XSR event done, sort off. Had to bail on the last lap, had a real severe shooting pain through my right knee and up back of my leg to under my belt muscle, she had I had to actually stop pedalling.
Got of the bike and realised that it didn't have the front wheel raised up. Do you think that could cause the knee pain after only 18km or so??

You missed a brutally fast one...

17th on live results. Held onto the lead group for half the race but was way above threshold and fell off the back. Rode a lap solo and then got swept up by a group of 4 for the sprint finish.

For a 20k race I'm ruined...

I calibrated it last time after a 10 min high speed warmup. Couldn't ever get the numbers anywhere near the stages.

Hmm. I reckon it's a bit bollocksed then. Mine's started making some clicking noises, but so far behaving well enough.

Is anyone with a tacx t2240, struggling with it sounding as loud as a washing machine on a 1200rpm spin, whilst just around cruising on zwift?

Mine occasionally clicks after a hard race. Once it's cooled down completely it's fine.

@gray - both my vortexs were out, I've just got a new one as the last one was clicking like mad. ๐Ÿ˜†

It's no problem as I'm sure I'll track down a new pm soon..

I don't know where you got the impression I was giving you advice ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was merely saying Monday = Rest day for me.

It was much less stressful when you didn't listen to my advice to be honest ๐Ÿ˜†

You know, back when you said Zwift wasn't really your thing ๐Ÿ˜€

Now you're the STW guru!

Weeksy Dec 2015:

Training against random bloke on the internet doesn't hold any interest to me at all. If I wanna do that I can go play with the Compton lads on Sunday mornings and battle them on the HT for about a mile until I'm dead.

If I could get the kit and have it working for <ยฃ30 in an afternoon, I'd be curious to see it in action.. but I just cant see me doing it day in day out in the garage

Hark at you now ๐Ÿ˜†

J4mes, not so far but i have only had it 3 days. Check that the plastic housing which surrounds the electro brake system is fastened together properly, if its loose or misaligned then it catches on the brake,i had to send my first one back because of this.

Just checked the housing and looks ok. I have spotted shavings of housing coloured plastic, so wonder if it had been rubbing. It spins feely and silently by hand. Unless the turbo tyre is clamped on too much?

After a few days on the trot beasting myself on Watopia Hilly I went for a steady recovery ride around London Loop last night, which ended up being a 189bmp smash up Box Hill. Ace

I always assumed recovery rides were the 3 mins of warm-up sitting on turbo before the race start ?

I've just been doing a flying lap of the Volcano, saw a few STW'ers.

Record with stages: 5:14
Tonight with Vortex: 5:17

Not as dodgy as I first thought! ๐Ÿ˜†
