Yeah enjoyed that a lot. Sterling effort Ivan and as I understand it bunch size makes a bit of a difference in zwift so you may well have made us faster any how and even then, over most of an hour I'm not holding a lot more than that.
You actually put out more W than the rest of us so if anything it's is lot slowing you down by being too spiky!
if anything it’s is lot slowing you down
Annnnnd that's the quote I'll choose to take away from it all...😉
Does anyone know where the results are published, I can't see anything on the wrtl website without creating an account?
Well done guys. Glad you enjoyed it. That is an evil ttt course.
They have to compile all the different races right?
Next week is Greater London Flat...
Next week is Greater London Flat…
Next week?????
Barf*
I've tried to create a login but waiting (aaaaaages) on an email to verify it,
Next week is Greater London Flat…
Yeah I'm up for that I think.
Flat sounds good, I'd be up for flat.
Flat sounds good, I’d be up for flat
In honesty an actual hill would be fine, those sharp but piddly little ones in tonight's course are horrid for keeping a group together on though as they're just not long enough to adjust your effort on properly.
Still I think we should be pleased with our week one effort. By my maths we won our pen with 55.04, so about 50 seconds up on second place.
Have to see how that pans out on the overall results but more than anything putting all 5 of us over the line within 7 seconds of each other is pretty good I reckon.
I got left behind after one lap. I watched the rest, impressive teamwork.
Interim results are up now.
Overall 55:04.964, 37.25kmh
General classification 227/359
Frappe category (for teams with best rider an A) 122/141
with 6 of 8 time zones completed, so the positions/totals will change slightly overnight.
Frappe category (for teams with best rider an A)
So you see Ivan, it was Newman made us look rubbish.
I got left behind after one lap
It looked like your connection dropped out something. You kept displaying 0w so we'd figured you had hardware issues or something.
It's a big event with an awful lot of work involved for the guys who run it to be fair.
So you see Ivan, it was Newman made us look rubbish.
Yeah not sure how much I helped by bumping us up the category!
Yeah not sure how much I helped by bumping us up the category!
Aye. Cake is on you next time.
@kelvinshuffle
What was the weekend race that you recommended during the TTT?
Thanks,
Phil
The 3r Alpe KOM - 15.35 on Sunday
I'll be doing it again I think fifth week on the trot and brilliant for working up a Sunday Roast Appetite.
Dtcc are rolling out en mass to the Shane Williams ride on Sunday morning.
4 guys from MVCC are doing a virtual zwift everesting on Alpe Du Zwift tomorrow for SAMH fundraising
The 3r Alpe KOM – 15.35 on Sunday
Ah, not the dash at 16.30 then! Seems I entered the wrong one
I think the only difference is the start-time
Great ride today swarm. I'll remember to bring my kit next time.😁
Really enjoyed it. That last lap was hard! Nice for Dr P to show us the underpass where the magic happens...
Relaxing in the sun with a beer now. Cheers!
Nasty course that Astoria8, I did a 4-lap "Flying Cheetah" ITT there at end of Nov last year on Cervelo P5 TT frame (unsure of wheels, my guess is either Zipp 808s or Enve SES 3.4s), ~1hr15mins30secs of torture (not helped by only having two gears at time, I've had 22 again for the last month or so).
Hope those of you that took part had fun, hope to be able to join you soon, no closer to having new belt fitted on Direto after randomly waking at ~0300 and going back to bed ~0900-1300 while spending afternoon feeling like a zombie.
I think we all enjoyed it, certainly it sounded like folk were smiling through the pain!
Not a good course for the first time out together but that said it can only get better with practice I guess.
How we feeling about another TTT this Thurs?
Trying to plan out my riding in a vain attempt to bring structure to the week.
I'm up for it but wouldn't mind ducking out if people would prefer to ride in Latte rather than Frappe
Result irrelevant to me. I'm in.
On the subject of results I just managed to log in.
133 out of 155. 9 mins down on first 5 up on last so I think we did OK all in all especially given we only just slip into that category.
I'm in, from a selfish point of view the mix works well for me, I need more practice at staying with a group so a bit of a range in our outputs does me good and as for the actual race I'm in it for the "pleasure" not the position.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but it's greater London Flat this week for the TTT so should make a better course for us.
I'm in - and result not important to me either
I'm in, frappe's good for me.
Actually I'm a numpty can't do Thursday next week, got a bunch of evening work call things I need to be on, sorry!
Well I guess that puts us in what ever the easier group is then. Which is odd because you'd think Frappe would be the pretend not really a race category as opposed to being above anything else.
*raises interested curios hand about this TTT malarkey
If you're interested pie enter the WTRL TTT on Thursday (I'm assuming 7.40pm again folks?) and change your zwift and zp names to have (STW) at the end - make sure it's round brackets and caps.
Other than that just turn up really - we'll clarify the start time a little before as it's a bit faffy but the import thing is be in the event and NOT PEDALING by 7.39.
It's helpful if you can get on discord, even just to listen in, for the countdown but not essential, you just need good eyes.
Savoyad do you want to enter us again as you know the drill or shall I pick it up?
Well I guess that puts us in what ever the easier group is then
Though if you have four B's you may get bumped as well right?
Speed sensor and calculated power for rollers. Managing a mighty 80W – no idea if this is a sensible number or utter bollocks.
Found my borrowed turbo was in the list of devices, now telling me 185W. Does this seem more likely?

Maybe. Who knows!
enter the WTRL TTT on Thursday
Hang fire on that bit - we had to enter cat A last time, not sure if that's something derived from sign on or otherwise.

Is this your "just riding along" effort or is it a balls out sprint?
I should be good for Thursday.

Seems far more plausible
I'm up for a TTT on Thurs if you need a reserve.
I’m also up for a TTT
But not that late in the day, in generally up around 5am and am no use to anyone from 8pm onwards
But not that late in the day
I'm not wedded to the time, there's a 6pm, 6.30pm and 7pm option too that I can see, any of which should work for me.
If folk who are interested stick up what's best for them and we'll find the one (or two if we've enough bodies) most can make.
I'm fine with whatever works for everyone
Earlier rather than later, but I'll ride whatever suits everyone
Earlier is better for me.
I don't mind doing the entry again. Consensus seems to be for a bit earlier than last time. There is more choice now as well. It looks like 6pm, 6.30 or 7 would be best for most people.
Unless there's an outcry in response to this post, I'll put an entry in the 6.30 race later today.
piemonster and dknwhy - what category does zwiftpower say you are?
I'll confirm which pen and, assuming there are riders who didn't ride last week, repost the step by step joining instructions later.
Zwift Power says that I'm C almost B.
If you're on Zwift today, my missus is on for the first time, riding 108km as a fundraising event with her work on behalf of the charity I work for - she's on as Catriona.Pratt (SiMY) EY 2.6 or something like that. If you could give her a 'ride on' it'd be much appreciated.
If you fancy throwing a couple of quid her way, you can do that via Just Giving
Searching for "Catriona Pratt" (note no dot) finds her. Nearly 13k in 👍.
I'm in for the TTT and the earlier the better but not fussed if it needs to be later. According to ZwiftPower I'm officially back to being a Cat C again - unfortunately...
Ok, what’s the TTT format then?
Hang on as long as you can?
Looking at some of the activities for the last one I’m not sure I’d hold this watts for that long.
Did the Newbury Velo RR 70km again today aka Portugal vs the World, 660 entrants! Increased my power over 1hr:45 to 3.4wkg average, PB'd all the climbs and managed the SuperTuck well. Preliminary 7th C with that power(!), theres some very dodgy results to sort out in that race - for example the c 1st &2nd C's coming in at 3.8wkg.
For me thats a good performance, what more can you do!
Did the Shane Williams ride this morning .
He's got a fair pace about him.
Not as good a long ride as the Vikings vahalla lot -that drive a consistant pace. This was quite variable which I found quite tough.....and no one wanted to do intermediate sprints for the primes 🙁
Difficulty was compounded by my internet being intermittent for first 30km. Riding along at a constant pace hoping your Still in the pack when you get web back....nope 8 seconds out the back gah. Into the red.
101km in the bank without leaving the house. The turbo shed has never looked so good. Gave it a tidy up and a sweep last night. Quite a pleasent place to be now
Ok, what’s the TTT format then?
Hang on as long as you can?
More or less
Looking at some of the activities for the last one I’m not sure I’d hold this watts for that long.
You'll be fine.
It's very much in the "don't phone, it's just for fun" vein.

I like the Valhalla and ZHR rides for constant Z2 over 100k/2:30+ also. That ^^ happened to me last week - sitting nicely in a pack and actually not really feeling very fit at 2.5wkg, when the the internet came back I was 16 seconds out the back riding solo and it extended my misery by about 4 mins as a result.
I forget then, but I use my phones hotspot instead of the wifi. Its more consistent than our wifi. I have a Smarty 30GB/£10 plan, and a 2:30 ride uses about 800mb of date so its easily accommodate over the month.
Our team is entered. 6.30pm on Thursday, 2 laps of Greater London Flat.
Now you each need to sign up as individual riders. We need between 3 and 8 people. Here’s what to do:
1. On zwift, enter the event. It’s here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/655732. Enter CATEGORY A (it’s not done on w/kg, ignore that. Just enter Category A). Do this asap.
2. On zwiftpower, tag your name with our team name, which is STW. Put it in brackets. So login to zwiftpower.com...zwift profile...settings and change Rider Name to “[yourridername] (STW)”. Do this any time before the race starts. If you don’t yet have a zwiftpower account, be warned there’s some hassle involved in setup.
3. Discord worked well for voice comms last week. The STW server is here https://discord.gg/UP6kv6. Check you can get in.
Exact start times (it'll be shortly after the 6.30pm event time, riders sit in the pen waiting) will be published later in the week. I'll post again when that info is available.
Thanks for organising Savoyad - I've entered
Aye, i'm in... Entered.
Entered.
Done thank you savoyad
According to ZwiftPower I’m officially back to being a Cat C again – unfortunately…
So I don't know how it works or why it's different on ZP to WTRL's own rankings but, erm, we placed 1st though 5th in Frappe on ZP so you got back into C with a podium Ivan 🙂
Yeah I saw that!
The none official websites do a great job but the sooner zwift bring excepting in-house the more straightforward things should be.
Good luck for Thursday, gutted to miss it unless anyone fancies 10.20 in the AM session!
Got on a B crit earlier - Lord have mercy that is a sharp effort for 20 mins, feeling it now four hours later. Had mixed results hanging with the lead group in these, managed it once in a smaller field, but dropped off with 2 laps to go last time out. This time went very deep and was on the premises last lap, but no - shelled out on that rise after the rollers as the group wound up.
Annoying not to hang on that little bit more, but truth is I was starting to crack on the lap before - got off the bike dizzy. Placed sixth on zp with the remnants of the lead gp. Saw @dangeourbrain stretching his legs in the results - how did ye find it?
Beast of a rider won the Bs - 400W for the crit at 102 kg, would have won the A class.
https://www.zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=630371
– how did ye find it?
First cat b race, first crit and I was quite pleased, managed to pick up the front group off the line but took too much effort from way back as I was very late getting into the race so only held in for about 8 laps.
Picked up the second group and held with them till the line absolutely bang in the middle of the ZP results so relatively pleased.
It felt a lot harder than the stats said though!
MMMMM Crit race fun !!!! Jealous and great results.
It's horrible when you're watching the group just sneak away on a section and you think "chase chase" and they just gap you a little more.... then it's all over.
Well done fellas.
There are still spaces to join us in the Team Time Trial on Thursday at 6.30. I think we have 5 riders signed up so far, so 3 places left. (I can't actually see for sure until the start list goes live nearer the time).
Joining instructions are just up above, in my previous post.
I think that mooman, piemonster and dknwhy have all been tempted at some point. Others welcome too...
@savoyad ok, entered. 6.30pm much better for me! Question: does my ZP name have to exactly match my Zwift name, or is the only important thing that the ZP name has (STW) at the end?
Edit: tried to join the Discord server also but it said link was invalid/expired
Jumped into a Crit City Slam with some of the club TTT riders. Internet issues got me in with 1 minute to spare.
All cats together for the short 8 lap of the Dolphin which I've not raced before.
Jumped out of the gate and promptly got spat out the back of the lead group pulling 350w.
Settled into the 2nd group which was slightly more sane.
Newbie Zwift racer reappeared in my group after dropping back after the climb.
6 laps of hanging on and got slipped off the back by a lapped rider I couldn't raise power enough to get out of the sticky draft. Someone else got me back on.
Same again end of lap 7 and a massive effort got me onto the tail end around turn 3 just as the tail end was getting tailed off.
Kept the power up to make sure nobody came up from behind for a decent result. First C placed rider other than clubmate who got himself upgraded after :0) only problem with that is our TTT squad got upgraded too :0(
See you in Thursdays results in Frappe.

Nice one Tom... You enjoy the layout ?
heads-up on potential pen waiting times, could be up to 24 minutes!

Sorry, forgot to say that I'd entered the TTT for tomorrow. Can't get discord working though.
Thanks
heads-up on potential pen waiting times, could be up to 24 minutes!
So not much earlier after all then!
I have an old laptop running Vista. Doubt that would cope with Zwift - or would it? If I update to another OS, has anyone experience of running Zwift on any of the free OS (Chromebook, Linus etc)?
Zwift needs fast single thread performance and a reasonable graphics card. However it does also work on lower power hardware. What laptop do you have? Does it have a better or just the stock one? There is an article on zwiftinsider from March about how to get the higher quality graphics modes for not a lot. I've been using my 3 year only work laptop but off the back of that article just taken delivery of components for a zwift PC. Spent just over £300 (reusing a case) and should be able to get the highest graphics settings with all the bells and whistles.
Thank, Nixie, I will take a look at that
