We have had a few zoom parties during the various stages of lock down - which are ok for chatting but we haven't mastered how to have shared music at the same time.

Playing through zoom is the obvious contender but I don't think you can play the music at a different volume or to a different output device without drowning out the conversation. 1,2,3 play on the separate sound systems results in out of synch and wrong mix selection.

A separate zoom account for the tunes appears to be a solution but is there another way of sharing and playing music simultaneously but separate to the conversation?

I appreciate this is a first world problem but with the festive season fast approaching fast could i become the new musical zoom lock down millionaire?

thanks

Any chance of moving to Teams? On that there's an option to use system sounds when you share content, which would do what you are describing.

We do my son's guitar lessons on Zoom, and use an audio interface which means we can have the normal 'talking' through the mic, and a second channel for the guitar.

You could use the same setup for audio in - just plug in your audio source (phone, iPod etc) to the second channel of any audio interface and you'd be able to control playback and volume levels independently of the main 'talk' channel. Just be aware there's an option in Zoom to automatically limit/control volume levels, so switch that off and and you'll be away.

Stream the music live via a different platform that all other users tune into (if they want) and can separateky adjust volume.

Facebook live, YouTube live, twitch. Sure there are others

I think the potential problem with this is that the platforms use content detection and if they detect you're playing copyrighted content, they shut the stream down. Certainly I know of a professional DJ who was doing lockdown live streams and was constantly interrupted on his streams.

Maybe. I've watched DJ Yoda on twitch live before and no problem. Trying to reply though and there was blanking so may be not doing live checking which doesn't really matter for this situation.

thanks for the suggestions. Teams on the face of it appears the easiest solution however our bunch of mates are not the brightest IT bunch and zoom took a few goes to get everyone working! Streaming the music through a different platform sounds plausible so i will have a look into it - can you share who is driving so we can take turns to control the music? audio interface sounds exactly what we need but will everyone need to buy ome? headphones won't work with what we are trying to do

thanks again

Not usually, maybe on a payed platform. You could always have a computer set up as the "DJ computer" and off remote control of the computer to people.

Pretty sure spotify has a group-listen feature, if you've all got that? might be premium only.
