Just a couple to start.
1) Joan Armaplating Love & Affection
2) Gerry Rafferty Right Down The Line

I used to look through my parents record collection and play these on my Dads very expensive Pioneer deck and Amp through massive Celestion Ditton speakers. Dad was born in 1950 so had loads of great records from the 60's and 70's. Cream Zep Deep Purple. Mum was more into folk like James Taylor Carole King. Has there been a better decade for music?

And c_g, stop spouting your sweaty guitar music based bollocks for once. Every decade has been fantastic for music.

he he! From the 70's? Pretty much everything I listen to then.

Lets see...

Gimme Shelter - The stones (technically the 60's but what the hell)
She's got balls - ACDC
Queen songs? Woot, Errm, Don't stop me now, Brighton Rock, Seven Seas of Rhye, Sheer heart attack, dear me the list goes on.

Ok, number one favourite then...

Got to be Purple Haze by the very great Hendrix.

I'm with DD. The 70s may have been great if you were into particular bands/genres that were popliar then, but I like all sorts me. If you're talking about modern 'popular' music, then each decade has had it's own styles and fashions, each as valid and important, in terms of the history and development of music as a whole, as each other. Limiting yerself to one style or period is just narrow-minded and daft.

Eh? Thought we were talking about the Seventies, no?

Abba - there was nothing better in the 70's

Probably the best Pop band in the World, ever....

Ooh yes. I had unsavoury thoughts about Agnetha's bottom before I was even aware such thoughts were indeed unsavoury.....

Mmm......

I was there. some good music but a load of mince as well. Overblown pomp rock. Hair metal.

Blown away by punk - most of which sounds mince now

Two tone was fantastic and a breath of fresh air Music for people who washed.

Best tunes? Exodus - Bob Marley. The Specials, the Clash. A few classic disco tunes that still sound good. Donna Summer and the mighty Cerrone

Probably the best era for funk, everything from well known James Brown to rare as hens teeth funk 45's from Texas.

'Spirit of '76' by Spirit was the best album of the decade, still stands as one of the greatest musical accomplishments of all time. Simply stunning.

Damned,Pistols,Ramones,NewYorkDolls...
Woke the 70's up after an intently dull period, not to mention giving the 'kids' a platform after years of unemployment & recession!
Why are the charts full of Boy bands & X-factor rejects?

Dave
