ipod is being detected by vista when plugged in, but its not being detected by itunes
itunes displays a message saying "an ipod has been detcted but could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect...."
i have tried unplugging and then replugging, with no change. I have uninstalled itunes, bonjour, apple device support, deleted the Temp folder, downloaded the latest version and then re-installed but it still says the same when i plug in the ipod.
other suggestions seem to be to restore the ipod, but all the instructions say to do it from within itunes (which is no good as its not being detected..) - is there another way?
TIA
Which ipod is it? If its a ipod touch then i believe there is something in one of the menus/settings to restore it.
If its one with a click wheel there is some button combination to restore it, possibly holding play and the middle button for 10 seconds? Check this on the apple website though
@jack - its a Nano with a camera
i have tried holding down menu and centre button, until it shows the apple logo and then it restarts, but it didn't make any difference - i think this is 'reset' rather than 'restore'
i have also tried menu and centre until the apple logo is displayed, and then rewind and centre together, but that didn't do anything.
thanks for looking
I had the same problem with my old iPod mini.
If memory serves correct I had to download an update from the apple website and use a 3rd party program to update it, then it would work in iTunes. This was a while ago now though.
