Laid low with shocking cold today, but I work from home so got to soldier on.

Wife bringing lemons home for homemade honey/lemon/ginger drinks and I've popped a couple of paracetamol - but what do you lot do/take when the lurgy strikes?

Apart from two capsules of MTFU every six hours, obviously.

To ensure a good nights sleep:

whisky and Night Nurse.

I'd advise that you weigh at least 220 lbs before attempting that sort of self-medication!

Soldier on? It's a cold for FFS!

Paracetamol to bring your temp down and help aches and pains that's about it really.

Was writing with a dose of irony Drac.

Don't they teach you to detect that at paramedic school?

Right- I know this sounds minging but it works.
1/2" piece of ginger grated or chopped
2 cloves of garlic crushed
Juice of 1 lemon + some grated rind
1 Tablespoon honey

Boil up with 1/2 pint of water and drink it

Ignore all advice given to you by your wife/boyfriend/mum/significant other/pet and put up with it.

Edit: Then complain about feeling crap, punctuated with sniffs and coughs, every 30 minutes until all symptoms have completely gone.

Yes they do which is why I never spotted any irony in your post, there's nothing ironic in that post.

Plenty of water, plenty or rest, plenty of honey & lemon, paracetamol as required.

Then have a super hot molten magama-rated curry for dinner. Usually sorts me right out that does.

there's nothing ironic in that post.

Definition: "the use of words to express something other than and especially the opposite of the literal meaning"

So... I'm not really having to "soldier on" and I'm not really taking "two capsules of MTFU" - they were ironic devices intended to pre-empt and deter people from posting replies like yours.

I can't believe I'm having a forum dispute about irony, I feel like such an internet cliché.

I'm off to make a hot toddy.

Half a lemon
chunk of ginger (chopped)
dollop of honey
shot of whisky (bowmore today I think)

Paracetemol x 2. 1 litre of pure orange juice. HTFU. Go out on the bike for 1hour with some uphill sprint work.

If the cold is above the neck carry on as usual. If you ache stay in..

Ignore the grumpy paramedic chakaping, most are really very understanding, as shown here :

So just dial 999 if it gets any worse.

GCSF always seems to do the trick for me.

Either that, or just accepting that colds are a fact of life...

My gran's remedy for cold / flu and pretty much every other ailment....

Red hot bath (monkey hot) and a bottle of malt. Don't get out of bath until bottle empty (you may need assistance)and keep topping the bath up to keep it hot. Retire immediately to bed and sleep like the dead. When you wake in the morning cold will be gone.

From personal experience this has worked for every cold and flu type virus I've ever had. Not sure if it's the bath sweating it out or the whisky killing off everything but it works so I don't plan to argue with my gran's method.

PS this is not suggested for kids under 12, only give them a 1/2 bottle.
