I'm booked into one with my girlfriend this weekend. It's yonks since I stopped in one - are they more or less no-frills hotels these days, or do I need to mess about taking stuff like towels?

id take a towel of my own , most you can hire one , some supply with room but you never know.

better to have 2 than 0 ...

towel, toileteries (*as there won't be any there), dressing gown - as it may not be ensuite

beware - some of them aren't open 24hrs and can only be checked into at certain times

it may or may not do brekkie/meals, check at reception, see point above about opening hours

As far as I can tell the YHA have absolutely no idea what their core business is apart from managing to alienate everyone. After closing down or selling off all the good hostels they've then done shoddy refurbs to take out any of the nice/ intersting bits of those hostels that are left and then manage to charge more than an equivalent B+B for a shared room with a bunk bed.
