my pc crashed last week and I've got an xp disc from the IT guys in work. I've now eneterd the recovery console but to be honest I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. Anyone like to offer advice?
Apart from taking it somewhere to get sorted I'm stumped.
So was it not booting?
Try typing:
[code]fixboot
fixmbr[/code]
Then reboot
yeh it was just restarting all the time without booting up.
when I type fixmbr it gives a **caution** do I just carry on and press 'y'.
and then reboot with the disc out?
Assuming you only have one hard disk and one partition (i.e. A pretty normal install) then yeah go for it.
its now asking for an admin password when I put in the windows install that I want to access but I don't have that.
I give up.
It's usually just blank unless you've changed it
