Google suggests dedicated knives are available. Who knew?
My normal panettone procedure goes as follows-
1. Discover at back of cupboard in June
2. Open to find it dryer than death valley
3. Break up and place on bird table
4. Sit back and enjoy the feathered visitors
Bread Knife for me.
@Kormoran an alternative to current Step 3 & 4 is to turn it into bread & butter pudding, maybe with a bit of added booze.
If you then choose to still put it on the bird table, then at least they'll have a feast!
Bread knives are good for so much more than just bread. I use a bread knife to carve meat!
I've got one sitting on top of a kitchen cupboard for when Jan gets too much....
I don't reckon it matters which knife. There's always gonna be a raisin that gets in the way and sticks to the point of the knife and prevents a nice clean slice, always raggedy edge here.
That bread and butter pudding sounds good.
I’ve two, untouched, hanging around to be eaten.
bread knife.
Just rip it off in chunks

Are you buying super expensive artisanal Panettone? The ones I buy seem to last forever, even after they've been opened. The one I bought from Lidl a few months back doesn't even go out of code until June
buying?
People buy panettone?
I thought it was an in-laws Christmas gift ritual
Mine went in a bread and butter pudding at the weekend.
Knife? I just eat it like an apple, a giant, tasty, carby apple ?
This. No faffing, just rip lumps off and cram it in.
Deep carving knife for a nice clean cut.
... dryer than death valley...
My first introduction to panettone...
25+ years ago, within a mini Christmas hamper from an italy based supplier at work. Me and my colleague (maybe 15 years my senior) were flumoxed.
Returning to work in jan, I mentioned it to him and said how unusual but nice it was.
'Don't know' he said, 'wife opened it. Cut in to it. Complained 'that cake you were given is already stale', and chucked it in the bin'.
Simpler times!
Never knowingly had a panettone in the house, but should I need to cut one, then it would be whatever sharp knife happened to be handy, including either of my Opinels. Of course, it would need to be on a breadboard or a plastic cutting board - I wouldn’t want to blunt the knife.
Although, the panettone might be stale enough to blunt it…
Don't you have fresh double cream on panettone? Otherwise yeah, can be a bit Sahara-ish.
Was given a posh one with Pistachio butter this Xmas (like green Nutella!). Nightmare to cut, but much easier if you leave the wrapping paper in situ while cutting, rather than peeling off beforehand
