I bought a soldering iron from Amazon - cheap but it had a tip that accomodated a craft blade so could be used as a hot knife. Also got a butane dremel but the knife attachment is not really a knife and relies on heat to cut/melt.

However the iron delivered is marked as 110V and has a US plug, even though the Amazon description says 220V and the packaging also says 220V.

I sent a message to the seller pointing out that it was the wrong voltage and they have replied :

"... Is it convenience for you to take a picture of it and send to me? I will check on my side who packed wrong and punish him for his carelessness. This way not to make same mistake again in the future.
Thanks for your cooperation. Please do not worry. I promise to give you good solution and won't let you down."

Being that it is from China, and their human rights record is not that great and many of their factories have nets outside the windows to catch jumpers, should I risk sending some photos back?

I've ordered another soldering iron that the tip might fit so I don't have to reply and then be haunted by what might have happened to the packer?

Is this a new way of quashing customer complaints?

Probably trying to avoid the return, but I'd see if you can report the seller to Amazon for that

Let them be punished. They've got to learn.

Either reward knowledge, or punish ignorance. It's your choice...

Lost in translation?

Trying to look on the positive side, it's possible that there may be a failure in translation and by 'punish him' they actually meant 'tell him to be more careful next time' but I definitely think you should report this to Amazon.

They can punish the packer regardless of whether you send the photo.

I would get onto Amazon and make it about staff treatment rather than the original issue.

I don't think i understand. There are two conversations to be had.

"Dear amazon product is not what was advertised on your service give me my refund or make the seller give me a refund, here is a picture of said items plug"

"Dear seller, go **** yourself you nasty piece of shit, here's a picture of my middle finger"

But don't be surprised if one actually turns up.

I've never talked to a seller on Amazon.

Go straight to Amazon. They'll refund it with no issue

Do amazon treat their own workers any better?

Ask for an ear at the very least

For this level of heinous crime I believe the seller should provide this on a neckless. For the inconvenience.

Nah, punish the Packers family's, the packer needs to learn but also to keep on packing. If his entire family is dead he'll have less distractions in his life so can concentrate on his soldering iron searching techniques.

Careful now, you could go to prison for inciting violence like that 😉

Play them at their own game by demanding to speak to their boss as they have failed to correctly train the packer. See how they like being punished. Then do the same to the boss. See how many people you can cause to be punished!

If it had been from Japan I would then be worried about someone commiting suicide because of losing face !

Tell them you won't be satisfied until they hammer frozen sausages into the packers lawn. Demand photographic proof

Allegedly Trump was working for an Amazon reseller to help with the court damages recently and make a mistake with a water bed sale.

Look what nearly happened to him.

Well I bought a different iron but the diamter of the bit was larger than I was expecting so the knife attachment from this one wouldn't fit.

I tried drilling out the centre of a rivnut and then cutting the side out to make a split collar in order to fit it to the other iron and let it clamp down the knife, but the rivnut is too stiff to comply.

So I've sent a photo in and the packer is going to have to pay the price 🙁

I expressed my reluctance to reply if it was going to result in punishment, so hopefully they will go easy on them.

Make sure the packer knows he now owes you a rivnut too. The bastard.
