Had an electrical engineer out to look at my dishwasher in Aug last year, can't remember exact date. Not a one man band but part of a larger firm. He didn't fix it but I still expected to pay callout fee. Never heard back from them, then yesterday got the invoice, dated 31 mar but for works carried out on 2 Mar. So only 7 months late and not accurate in terms of when the visit was.

Would it be fair to go back to them and say that I wont pay as I didn't have an engineer visit in Mar?

Dunno. Is it an acceptable amount for a call-out and does it properly describe the nature of works carried out?

I still expected to pay callout fee.

Is the invoice the same as the callout fee you expected to pay? Don't see the problem - you owe them the money, can't see that the date is an issue. If it is, ask for an amended invoice with the correct date on it.

I would only pay an accurate invoice, otherwise you are admitting that there was a visit in march and what was carried out was correct, still leaving you liable for the actual visit.

Can I start a company with income coming from call outs only without fixing anything? i.e. every time you call us we charge you but we are not fixing your problem.

Good eh ...

Personally I would not pay (unless see below) because they did not fix the problem.

However, if their website clearly stated there was a call out charge regardless of whether they fix the problem or not then, I guess you might have to pay them. This is like the company then give out fake call out to fix problem only to earn from call out charges.

Check their terms and condition to see if the call out relate to fixing or attempted to fix the problem not look and see then send you a bill. If there is such terms (they did not do anything) then you are on the right and can challenge them.

🙂

I would pay it in the same fashion I was billed.

Several months later, and probably for the wrong amount.

Frank

1 You should've just called the guys from Earlston, cheap call-out and the only way they couldn't have fixed it was if it was totally broken.

2 And if it was the guys from Earlston, they are hardly a 'larger' firm (and I could imagine their admin is none too brill), but see 1.

🙂

If they didn't fix it I probably wouldn't pay it. Why did the not fix it? Did they strip it down or just suck their teeth and say "nah mate"?

We refused to pay an Electrician's bill after they repeatedly failed to fix anything. Eventually alanl from here fixed the issue in about an hour and we paid him instead.
