@mattyfez – if you don’t already, you should listen to “How Did This Get Made” podcast
Or the "For your reconsideration" podcast, which is better as they're Brits (well, Northerners)
i thought the dial of destiny was way better than crystal skull, but that's not a high bar tbf.
neither are worst film ever level
there's a million godawful xmas movies on streaming services that probably are tho
Anything with Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude Van Damme in it.
That would put Under Seige in a worst film list!?!
highbrow it ain't but it's a great brain out action film, plus has Tommy Lee Jones in a briliantly knowing, scenery chewing performance.
Having just watched the new Animated Mario Bros film, I’m re watching the 1995 live action version.
It’s gloriously awful.
Monsters - Dark Continent. Apparently it was a sequel? Complete bobbins.
I pride myself on finding and watching the worst movies ever.
I got this from the library the other day. I think you'll like it.
Watched the new Indiana Jones film yesterday, it’s not as terrible as it was being made out to be
Odd, I'd heard the opposite, that it was a return to form after Crystal Skull.
never saw any ‘wokeness’ that was being talked about
Oh, that's disappointing.
We stupidly watched Kandahar on Prime the other day
Formulaic dross
Can I add candy cane lane to this roll call of utter toss?
My SIL is a connoisseur of Christmas film barrel scrapings and even she thought it was a pile of steaming goat ****.
@ratherbeintobago, give it a watch. I'm not a fan of Empire reviews much as it happens, they're a bit too keen to give anything remotely "SciFi adjacent" a good score JIC. As the Funkmaster points out, it really should be solid, Star wars meets revenge movie; but's just awful, bad acting, terrible overuse of slow-mo, (someone wrestle that function away from Zack, for the love of god) it just makes watching it feel even stronger like your life is draining away before your eyes..
How to spend millions and waste it.
That would put Under Siege in a worst film list!?!
Is it ?. All I know is girl bursts from cake.
I have tried to watch rebel moon 3 times now, haven't made it past the 20 minute mark. It is generic, cliched and has terrible dialogue. They don't seem to have spent any of the budget on writers. It is like one of those studios who used top make cheap knock of versions of big films with similar titles accidentally gave one of their directors 10x the normal budget. It is basically mid afternoon filler material for the scifi channel.
But is isn't close to being "worst film" which should keep you entranced by its awfulness, it should make you feel used and dirty, you know you should look away but you can't help keep watching, it should make you question your life choices and why you didn't just stop ****ing watching. Whereas with rebel moon, it is quite easy to just go and make a cup of tea and and then stare out of the windows for a couple hours instead knowing that this is a better use of your time.
They don’t seem to have spent any of the budget on writers.
Zac Synder is fast become the new Michael Bay, with Bay its revolving camera shots and upskirts, with Synder its slow motion. Rebel Moon is just a Sci-Fi version of Six Underground.
Zac Snyder is long past that stage. I'll hazard a guess that there's a girl in Rebel Moon with a tragic back story who has been raped or otherwise abused by the antagonist.
Watch Men was an overly long filler fest of ZS tropes.
Sucker Punch was the same.
Why would he change now?
If no one has mentioned it already (I may have even mentioned it myself and then erased the memory on purpose) Bruce Willis in 10 Minutes Gone was probably THE worst film we've watched in modern times!
The plot, the acting.... painful.
Any time Snyder gets full control of a film (directs, writes and produces), it's a recipe for disaster, Watchmen was decent because he just directed it, and used the comic book as the storyboard for the filming, 300 again was just the right place, right time kind of movies, so he got away with the way that was done and Man of Steel again was him just directing.
The movies he's had full control, well Sucker Punch, Army of the Dead and now Rebel Moon, he just doesn't do well when he writes movies he directs!
Indiana jones and dial of dross was terrible. Struggled to find any redeeming features.
saltburn
you all need to watch some actual really bad films, Rebel Moon was predictable, silly and souless, but hardly worst film ever
I watched Star Slammer last night. I love watching really objectively bad movies. This one did not disappoint.
I'd strongly urge eveyone to watch 'Zombeavers', although, strictly speaking it falls into the parody/so-bad-it's good catagory... especially the out-takes at the end.
Theres one particular scene where they throw a little dog into the water as a decoy, so they can swim away safely from the zombie-beaver(s)
But they couldn't get the dog to stop playing in the water with what is clearly a radio controlled speedboat model with a faux beaver fur pelt, draped on top of it!

Excellent, it's on my watch list for exactly this reason!

TBH I have a feeling he was doing a fair few of his last films by having his lines read to to him.
It’s all a bit sad to see him go out this way, considering how many good films he’s been in.
TBH I have a feeling he was doing a fair few of his last films by having his lines read to to him
He was. He did a ton of films. Couple of million dollars per film for about 20 minutes work. He was noticeably struggling on set.
^^^agreed 🙁
There’s a lot of hate for The Hobbit (x3) but they’re actually not bad films. Sure they’re a bit thin at times, but there’s some seriously good bits, good acting, tremendous visuals and some great music.
I watch them most most Christmas’ and New Year whilst cooking.
Worst film ever? Green Lantern without a shadow of a doubt.
I’d strongly urge eveyone to watch ‘Zombeavers’, although, strictly speaking it falls into the parody
That reminds me,
I haven't watched it so can't comment further, but a friend of mine stars in this:
+1 for Saltburn being crap
Say what you will about Snyder, the intro to The Watchmen is the best intro to a film EVER. AND it’s one of those few films that’s actually better than the books that it’s based on without pissing all over the original content.
Anything with Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude Van Damme in it.
JCVD was supposed to be very good. But Seagal is a Putin stooge and degenerate, so I won't be defending his oeuvre...
Think I must have been living under a rock, didn’t realise Ghostbusters had been remade…disappointing end to the holiday week!
The Menu was pretty good though 👍
They don’t seem to have spent any of the budget on writers
That’s Star Wars all over. Script duties should have been given to screenwriters who actually know how to write proper dialogue.
Watch Men was an overly long filler fest of ZS tropes.
Having read the original graphic novel in its first print serialised version, and also bought the large format novel, I thought the film stuck pretty much to the original story, which really didn’t need much doing, it was story-boarded for him.
Sucker Punch was the same.
I really enjoyed Sucker Punch, the underlying concept reminded me very much of a book I have called When Rabbit Howls.
It’s not a cheerful book, involving extreme child abuse, and abuse of family pets; a very recent court case involving the abuse of family pets and their killing afterwards shows it’s not limited to fantasy.
This is the worst film I've seen that was nominated for an Oscar, but for Barbara Harris, not Dustin Hoffman. The script was just lazy, indulgent, predictable nonsense.

AND it’s one of those few films that’s actually better than the books that it’s based on without pissing all over the original content.
In what way? Personally I don't mind if films based on comics or books go off on a different tangent - as they are different mediums after all. The problem I found with the Watchman movie was that it tried to stick to comic too closely (some shots were literally frame for frame for the comic book) while simultaneously missing huge chunks of it out, and changing the ending; which made no sense.
If I remember correctly there was a huge pressure on Synder from some pretty verbal super-fans ultimately holding him to ransom to make a movie-copy of the comic book, which it is, but duller for all that. The series IMO was a much better take on the "who guards the guards" question.
Has Predator 2017 been nominated yet?
Lucy. The worst thing Ive ever seen.
What happens when a French producer has finally understood what it takes to please a Hollywood audience. The French film with the highest take outside France. And yes, it's nonsense.
Watchmen the movie looked great yet he still managed to lose the essence of the comics. He basically made Rorschach in to a hero. I don’t know what graphic novel he read to end up with that particular take away. The novel is extremely cynical, movie is a standard super hero movie in the hands of Snyder.
AND it’s one of those few films that’s actually better than the books that it’s based on without pissing all over the original content.
You know what definitely falls into this camp? The Godfather. Having loved the film I read the book and it is absolutely dreadful. Same basic story, including the horse's head stuff, but really badly written, sub-airport-novel pap. Mr Copola did however wisely omit the ongoing 'subplot' about a female character having a spacious vagina and the subsequent surgery to tighten it up (I kid you not)

Are you just pretending Leon and The Fifth Element don't exist now?
Think I must have been living under a rock, didn’t realise Ghostbusters had been remade…disappointing end to the holiday week!
Wait a minute. Aside from Ghostbusters 2, there have been two semi-recent films. To which are you referring?
There was an all-female lead Ghostbusters which was ostensibly a remake. It roundly got a critical drubbing, partly because it wasn't great and partly because, well, the Patriarchy is fragile. To my mind it was worth the price of entry for Holtzmann.
More recently there was Afterlife which is the true (excuse me) spiritual successor to the original and is just glorious in every way possible.
‘The Boys’ just blew all that out of the water though, by several magnitudes.
I don't want to know what The Deep is blowing out of the water, thanks.
