I personally think that all Pierce Brosnan Bond films should be erased from the film vaults forever: Not because he was a bad Bond, in fact he had the potential to be a good one, it's just that the films were so badly written and made.

Let's face it, they're all shite really. We forgive far too much because they're "Bond" films.

Quantum of Solace was seriously sh*t.

It was just a collection of very loosely connected, cartoon-like 'action' scenes with a lame, instantly forgettable plot. Daniel Craig isn't anything special either.

I won't be wasting my time and money on the next one when/if it is ever made.

Worst is probably On Her Majesty's Secret Service. George Lazenby combined with bad special effects. 🙁
Die Another Day they spent all the money on the car chase and there was nothing left for special effects!

My favourite is probably The Living Daylights - I thought TD made quite a good Bond actually. Plus it's got Maryam d'Abo in it which is a definite bonus.

Roger Moore brought a much needed dash of humour to the role. You can all go on about how awesome Connery was, and he was very good, but he was too much of a man to carry that off. And Never Say Never again was cack.

Totally agree and it was boring/slow and went on for ages!

S.C. was a great all rounder and typical 60's tv spy, (NSNA was poo)
G.L. had the looks but that is it,
R.M. added the funny - not all laughed...
P.B. was ideal for the time and Golden Eye was fresh,
T.D. was well he had an English accent but lack of budget although he was
probably closest to Ian Fleming's idea,
and D.C. is quite is good but has the script and big budget to support him in Casino Royale which was great!

although Quantum of porridge wasn't so great.

Tomorrow Never Dies was the one I really didn't get - the story didn't appeal at all. Not suggesting that the story is the point of James Bond films but still.

Quantum of Solace - good actor wasted. No one really expected much of Moore, and they weren't disappointed.

OHMSS one of the best - if only because it sticks to the plot of the book.

Octopussy. There were several preposterous scenes, but the one where Bond had to drive an Alfa Romeo thirty miles does it for me.

Indeed. To be honest the book is a bit naf, and the film is actually quite close to the book but when he addresses the camera. WTF??? Terrible terrible film. Most of the others are less cringe worthy and generally entertaining.

I liked OHMSS, despite the awfulness of Lazenby, the writing and plot was tight. And Diana Rigg was proper fit too...

The latest one was pretty bad, but not as bad as that Pearce Brosnan one where he goes to the arctic, shocking.

Love a bit of Roger Moore - takes Bond to almost parodic levels but very entertaining.

It was Ian Fleming's actually. He wanted Roger Moore for the first bond film but Moore was tied up doing the Saint at the time so the producers went for some Scottish guy called Sean Connery.

Octopussy, by far the worst bond ever. Ok so the others all had bad bits, and some dodgy acting and one liners, but octopussy had a troupe of circus artists storming a palace and bond arriving late in a hot-air balloon piloted by Q... ridiculous!

You can't slate either of the daniel craig films because he's clearly the only bond actor who's read any of the books.

i can slate quantum of bobbins because A) it was bobbins,

and B) it wasn't funny about it either.

im bored of watching Bond villains 'lairs' explode in the final sequence, i have never heard of exploding concrete, but it seems to be the building material of choice for the aspiring super-villain.

I've not seen Die Another Day, what's that all about, I might be in danger of having my british citizenship revoked for having not seen every Bond film. But I think I'll not be rushing to fix that. At least it inspired the reset.

Quantum of Solace was just a mess really, it did have some decent bits but it was all over the place. But I can't think of any redeeming features of Octopussy, it's just awful. More like some comedy knock-off of a Bond film. Tarzan ffs.

They are all pretty shite tbh.

Well there you go Loddrik; we can agree on something at least! 🙂

They are shite, but quite good fun, mostly. Just a bit of not particularly intellectually demanding entertainment. The more recent ones have got up their own arse a bit mind.

All are however better than any of the Bourne films. I have not been able to watch any of those without falling to sleep.

B) it wasn't funny about it either.

I reckon this where where it went wrong right from the start. For some inexplicable reason, the director/screen writer/actor, thought that adding a bit of humour into things would make it all work nicely. Connery was there telling us all that he might retire to Japan when finding out men always come first (oh the irony) to the teeth shatteringly cringe fest that was Moore telling us that Jaws only popped in for a quick bite.

It probably attracted a huge audience that originally wouldn't be interested in bond films but it made for less that gripping viewing.
Flemming's bond was a tourtered soul, dark and cynical, a ruthless killer for whom murder was a mere afterthought. An anti-hero, nothing like the film bond, apart from possibly Craig.

Die another day is just a bloody awful film full stop. Dreadful. Dont mind the RM lot, as they are knowingly silly - although Sheriff Pepper was a huge mistake

Die another day was the jump the shark (or invisible car) moment of the series which is saying something given how exceedingly silly some of the other films were (almost any with RM for example)
Im enjoying the reboots though, Daniel Craig makes an excellent bond and i can only hope the next film gets better writing than quantum of solace which had some great moments i just wish the storyline had been one of them.

There was one with an invisible Aston Martin. I can suspend my disbelief a lot of the time, but that was the final straw.

Quantum of Solace, hope for the next one they manage to hire a camerman without Tourette's. And a scriptwriter.

I watched Die Another Day on Pro-sieben last night too & indeed it is one of the crapper Bond films. They've been showing quite a few recently.

Being dubbed in German doesn't make it any better. Piers stick to being Thomas Crown or similar..

Moonraker was the worst, just shoved out to try and capitalise on the "star wars" effect.

The Bourne trilogy exposed how bad the whole series has become.

Quantum of solace is the worst one I've seen. I don't think I'll be watching any more after that effort: Daniel Craig just doesn't have the charisma necessary for the role. I enjoyed Roger Moore's "hammy" far more than Craig's tough-guy blandness.

I thought Brosnan was good but yes, the screenplays got worse and worse. The invisible car in the arctic was a real "jumping the shark" moment for the Bond series.

was Die Another Day the one with the pointless CGI'd "kite surfing" scene??

i have to say i actually enjoy some of the roger moore ones, Live and Let Die, or The Man with the Golden Gun for instance. They are silly, but thats part of the appeal.

I think you meant to put "Parkinson's" or something rather than Tourette's. I know what you mean though. They were trying to copy the handheld camera-work that's become a trademark of the Bourne films but it just ended up looking like they couldn't afford tripods or the cameraman was constantly tripping over.

I've always preferred the films where they get Bond closest to the ruthless killer of Fleming's books:

Dr No, with the classic "you've had your six" line, Live and Let Die was the closest Rog ever got to that, and the new Casino Royale was excellent or the same reasons.

Conversely, the more hammy they made the dialogue, the worse the films became - Diamonds are Forever was pretty bad, and the later Roger Moore films were risible.

Quantum of Solace indicated a worrying trend back towards blowing up supervillain lairs which the Bourne films, and Casino Royale have shown to be pretty unnecessary to making a decent popcorn/spy/action film.

Why oh why do criminal masterminds never learn that it's always a bad idea to tie the hero up and explain their plot to him in graphic detail.

Just shoot the bugger before he unties the knot and brings your evil lair down around your ears.

You can't say Roger (some) Moore is rubbish when he was in Live and Let Die.

A pefect Bond film with a bit of mid 70's racism thrown in. Brilliant.

Die Another Day was indeed pants, but I have to agree with everyone else who said Octopussy as being the very worst.

Of the three main Bonds my best and worse are:

SC: Best - Goldfinger
Worst: Diamonds are Forever (Never Say Never Again is unofficial so doesn't count)

RM: Best - Moonraker
Worst: Octopussy

PB: Best - Goldeneye
Worst: Die Another Day

Timolthy Dalton's two efforts are fairly good as for Daniel Craig enjoyed Casino Royale, one of the best Bond's so far but Quantum of Solace was trout

Moonraker was the worst,

I was waiting for that. I know it's an unpopular choice, but I really like Moonraker.

Bear in mind too, it predates the shuttle programme. All those launch sequences, the real shuttle hadn't actually flown at that point. Whilst the Star Wars 'blow up the virus in thew atmosphere, it'll be fine' (as opposed to 'it'll ensure maximum coverage') scene was clearly bobbins, they got a surprising amount right.

Though, I'm a bit of an astrogeek so might be biased. (-:

I thought that women hated the whole Roger Moore Bond style, and went for the whole Sean Connery thing.
Clearly Divagirl turns this preconception on its head. Presuming that Divagirl is actually a girl as the name suggests, (there is some confusing names on here !)

Tomorrow Never Dies, is far and away the worst Bond film ever, truly awful. Of the old school stuff its "spy who loved me" for me every time, and the newer era "goldeneye" (but thats because of Famke Janssen mainly 🙂

Ah sorry, didnt read the whole marrying Matt Damon thing by DG, yep that probably clears up the confusion.

Let us know how the old marrying Matt Damon thing goes, good luck with that, and all the best to you both. Assuming of course he doesnt get a restraining order on you, restricting you to a 500 yard radius of him

QOS was definately a disappointment - storyline was pants.

The last to Pierce Brosnan ones weren't great either - Die another day and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Wasn't impressed by View to a Kill either.

As for worst - Casino Royale (the first one).

Does age and newer films change perception of the films I once liked - almost certainly. I am getting more picky.

Bourne is definately better. But each Bond Film does have something very good and memorable. Even Moonraker & QOS even if it is a little trashy.

I quite like the Roger Moore films, especially Live & Let Die.

Don't really like anything from Tim Dalton onwards tbh. They all fall into the "bigger is better" trap, when it comes to action and effects.
It's o.k. to slightly push the boundaries of what's believable, but I lose interest as soon as it goes OTT. The humour doen't work now either imho, as the films seem to take themselves a bit too seriously.

Dalton was good I thought, and his Bond films were alright too.

Roger Moore's Bond films are mostly very entertaining too IMO, they're just action comedies rather than action films/thrillers.

It's The Brosnan films that were cack, as others have said. The North Korea one was absurd, especially the bit where he surfs on a tidal wave.

View to a Kill

I like that film (not the best, but still like it), Christopher Walken is a spot on proper nut job villain in it..as Max Zorin and Zorin Industries...

+ Duran Duran - top job

RM is my fav bond.

(havent read most of the above)

was sat down feeding the baby last night watching view to a kill, was wetting myself laughing at the bit on the golden gate bridge with the airship, when the bad guy (whats his face) is figting with bond on the bridge.

the stunt doubles they used look nothing like them and the wigs were a crime!

it amazes me the cost of hiring out an airship etc then spending 5 pence on the stunt doubles attire.
