Anyone done this and is it worth doing?
Anyone know how to sign up with a reputable agency or whatever?
Ta.
did it years ago when a student, cant remember which agency it was with though. spent two days up in gloucester docks for about half an hours work and the pay was pants.
A guy I knew at uni did it and managed to nick Helena Bonham Carter's trainers.
I dont think I would have chosen hers!
The saying in the industry is "hurry up and wait". This means you'll turn up at a given location, probably somewhere remote at an inconveinent time, and asked to wait around for ages whilst the crew get everything set up. You'll get your five seconds of fame, milling around in the background, and when wrap is called, you'll get thanked and then booted off set asap. You probably won't get feed or watered either, and remember to take a book and a folding chair. You probably won't get in on anything big withouit going through an agency, unless it's an indie, in which case they'll take anyone, but you probably won't get paid. Mostly done by hard up actors or those trying to break in, or the terminally bored/unemployed/nuts/famestruck or retired. It can be interesting and useful if you're trying to break in, but a lot of time it's hanging around for all day to shoot 3 minutes of footage.
Glamorous. No.
I did it after an apeal through work when I was working for Vodafone. I "Starred" in control I was in the background of one of the gigs Joy Division did. Was 2 hours of on off pogoing to music that I couldn't hear. Very Bizarre. Got paid a princely sum of £40 and some soggy sandwiches. But I got to be in a film about one of my musical heroes.
I did do some short student films one of which I did have a starring role and did the really crap monkey style dubbing as well 🙂 Which was hilarious.
I have done it a few times. My best one was being and extra in a crimewatch reconstruction epic night the film crew were late then when they arrived they had to legally have a break, in the meantime our HQ was a bar that had been rented and the bar was free!
I got so drunk I was worried about my starring role until my instructions were to walk down the street with a rather hot girl and act drunk!
I wouldn't do it again though you are treated like shit.
when you say 'Extra' I read that as 'Fluffer'
why the inverted commas?
My best one was being and extra in a crimewatch reconstruction
My mate was actually on Crimewatch!
Proper defamation of character though, as he wasn't connected to the crime, yet this wasn't pointed out (appeared in some video footage). Bang out of order; he's never had an apology or anything. Can't sue due to some 'technicality'.
Hmmm....
Was offered, but didn't take it up as the pay was shite, and who wants to be an extra on Hollyoaks anyway?
The crew used our rowing club as a base and the River Dee for the setting of a raft race, quite a few of the club members did it and seemed to enjoy it, to be honest it did look like fun, but I couldn't be ar5ed. I think they were paid about 50 quid each for the day, so not much money...
