Having problems logging into my Wordpress admin. It doesn't recognise my email address, or my password.
What do I do?
.com or .org ?
My email is a .com
my wordpress site has neither .com or .org.
the url is www.wallflowercreative.co.uk
Have you been hacked? Do you still have access to the ftp and database?
Are you sure you don't have capslock on by accident? You could try going through the password reset process, but if it's not recognising your email that probably won't work.
Also, not sure how your account has been setup, but do you have a username instead of an email - something like 'admin' or 'ashley'? try using that instead.

Odd - obviously check the basics first (like another email address or your name (see what name it's putting by your posts) being used for the login)
Do you have access to CPanel (or similar) and phpMyAdmin
There's also a method via FTP. See here:

low end user here.
i don't know if i've been hacked. how would i know that?
i can see the FTP through CyberDuck, and i just looked at my cpanel and clicked on Database but i don't know if i've got access or what.
capslock definitely not on, tried password reset but doesn't recognise my email.
i've cleared all Firefox cache and cookies, but my WP admin page still prompts with my username and a password.
not sure what to do??
try just pitting "admin" into the username field and reset password
did you get a reset link emailed to you?
try just pitting "admin" into the username field and reset password
tried that, no joy.

tried this, downloaded functions.php for my theme and it's completely blank in there.
yes, i do have access to CPanel. what should i do there?
Stupid question I know - but have you always used your email address and never had problems before?
If not then you will need access to your hosting cpanel (control panel) so that you can change the entries in the database for users and passwords
no reset link was emailed, as it doesn't like my username or my email address.

no, it was previously username: admin, but it doesn't like that.

how easy/safe is that? any easier/safer alternatives?
You may not have been hacked, but the database may have corrupted - you're welcome to email me and I'll see what I can do to sort it out. But I'd need passwords etc, so it depends if you trust a stranger!
powell dot lee at gmail dot com
possible issue here. the email address in mySQL database for me as the only user shows an incorrect email address. it shows a googlemail.co.uk address and my address is googlemail.com.
i typed .co.uk into the password reset and it says it has sent an email. but i don't have access to that account, so what's the best way forwards??
This video talks you through doing it in phpMyAdmin
Before you edit anything - you can see the username and address once you delve into 'Users', so you could see if it's anything unexpected and perhaps try resetting via wordpress using that email address.
Be very careful and I would immediately change it from within Wordpress afterwards.
(I don't accept any liability, etc)
Edit: seen your post above. Looks like you might have to go through all these steps. Surprised you were using an email address you don't have access to though. Seems odd.
.co.uk and .com will both come through to the same account for gmail.

still waiting...
how long should it take?
Have you checked your spam folder?
Actually - according to google, googlemail.co.uk has never existed as a domain. I was getting googlemail.com and gmail.com confused. I'd suggest editing the field in the database to .com
OK, i edited my incorrect email address in the database to .com, went back to the WP lost password and it accepted the .com address. i picked up the email and clicked on the create new password link, which i then did.
it told me to login.
i used the new password that i had just created, and it still won't login.
square 1. doh.
Have you tried the username with the new password?
I'd just go through the full phpmyadmin method to set the password and email address.
I'm surprised the reset didn't work though.
i just tried resetting the password in phpmyadmin, and saved it.
came out to WP login and it says the username is invalid. the username is exactly what it says in phpmyadmin.
grr.
How about trying to create a new user via the phpMyAdmin method and seeing if you can login with that?
Maybe also try to repair the users table:

Worth checking that the page you're logging into is definitely the same as it should be.
i.e. http://www.wallflowercreative.co.uk/wp-login.php

Tried this, didn't work.

I'd advise making a database backup before doing any of this though...
in phpmyadmin, i just noticed there is a difference between userlogin (single letter) and usernicename and displayname (both the same, both the word that WPlogin prompts me with).
so i logged in with the single letter, and i'm into my WP dashboard. at last.
no idea why the userlogin was changed. what are recommendations for making this all watertight from now on?
user_login should always be the one you use to login with.
user_nicename is a url version of your user_login, used for permalinks.
display_name is used throughout templates to display your actual name.
I'm not sure why your data would have changed to be honest. But at least now you know how to fix it should it happen again.
how often is it worth doing a backup?
Same as anything else. If you'd be gutted at losing it - back it up!
(that's every post for some of my clients)
