Yes, I suspected that. The Wordle list was made put together by the original programmer who asked his wife (who apparently speaks English as a second language) to go through the list of 5-letter words and identify the ones that she knows. He later sold it to the NY Times. I don't know whether they've changed the list or not but I can't be arsed looking up the list when I'm doing the puzzle.
