Guess 4 for me today.  My board looks very similar to dangerbrain's attempt.

Hmmm so line four was a zero score for both skill and luck as it doesn't exist apparently. Seems I'm in 7% of hard users who disagree.

On the other hand the (incorrect) second of the two words I could have guessed I'm pretty sure isn't really a word (even after I googled it)

And another "...incredibly lucky, there's only one word left" after line two, followed by "there was only one possible solution left - and this wasn't it" on line three for me today. Absolutely no idea why it wasn't valid nor why the anagram of the solution wouldn't be either.

Not as bad as yesterday's "there were two words left and carob wasn't one of them" the two being cargo (fair do) and carom (which I'm pretty comfy sayingreally isn't a word even after I googled it).

I seem to be on a roll of acceptable words that it doesn't think exist. 🙄 today's was admittedly a bit made up, but wordle normally likes those.

I'm intrigued as to why girth and mirth weren't vaild solutions yesterday, anyone any idea?

MIRTH was guaranteed to eliminate every word but one, but it couldn’t solve the puzzle given what was learned from your previous guesses.

I used mirth yesterday (by mistake, I accidentally hit enter) & it seemed to accept it as a word.

Oh it accepted it - just like girth yesterday and carob the day before, also ***** today.

All acceptable and no plurals or 3rd person present verbs so I've no idea which rule I'm breaking.
(today's was exactly the sort of rubbish word they like but no, not a possible solution)

What are you on about? Do you think the solution was a rubbish word or one of your guesses was rubbish? It's just a game, you might be taking it a bit too seriously.

My guess, absolutely my guess. The answer today isn't rubbish though I suppose my guess was was no less "rubbish" than the solution. It's just odd that eg yesterday girth and mirth couldn't be the answer.

It’s just a game, you might be taking it a bit too seriously.

Sure, but it's a lot easier to play when you know the rules.

Sure, but it’s a lot easier to play when you know the rules.

If you're playing hard mode, the rules are different to normal mode. In Hard Mode, all correct letters in a guess (yellow and green letters) must be used in the subsequent chance for the game to detect the word as a legitimate guess. If you don't like that rule, turn off hard mode.

I'm fine with that bit but for instance not knowing plurals aren't a valid solution makes a big difference to the possible answers.

If for instance you had PLEA? that can't be pleas so must be plead so saving a guess.

The quicker I get the answer the sooner I can get up and have a coffee, this is of significant import. I'm sure you'll agree, anything which delays the initial caffeination of my day should be taken exceedingly seriously.

Curses! That’s given the game away. TBH I slightly take issue with the ‘hard mode’ definition. Sure, it means you are likely to solve the problem with fewer steps, but it does mean that certain scenarios are just guesswork. I’d argue that having 4 greens with 5 possible letters means you need to display more skill in easy mode to think up a word that eliminates them efficiently. I just got a bit frustrated when it came down to pure luck if you got the solution.

Nope, I sent him a green ink snail mail. He may not have got it though ‘cos I haven’t had a reply.

No, I usually play it that way but it's not set to hard mode. Wordle lost my data back in the spring so my streak was actually more like 250, oh well.

I'd argue getting four greens and five options on hard means you've either been very unlucky or quite careless (I'm occasionally one, other or both).
In easy you don't have to avoid the trap 😉

In hard mode, your options for eliminating letters are reduced. Across a large number of puzzles, your chances of success are reduced.
