My colleagues use SNAFU all the time

Got it on my 6th go but I'm ashamed to say I was reduced to systematically trying combinations that sounded most like they could actually be words.

I knew it as a word, but I don't exactly encounter it often!

I actually suspect it may have popped into my head because my kids were reading a book whose title rhymes with it, the other day!

(Being enigmatic rather than naming the book because I don't know how to do that spoiler hiding thing!)

it’s surprising it’s in the Wordle dictionary, considering its obscurity.

The NY Times has obviously dropped the original Wordle word list. Snafu was not in that original list. You need to assume that any five-letter English word can be used.

Obviously a proper word that needs skill rather than luck today.

I normally try to do it in hard mode but realised there were 7 letters it could be after line 2
EDIT The wife just got it in two, having only got one yellow in the first line. She is the jammy-ist git in the the known universe 😫

I read the other day that some guy who had a run of nearly 500 had it ended by the same setup of getting the same last 4 letters as today with there being 8 possible first letters

I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall when he was about to press the button on his last chance

My run is now 364. I might retire before tomorrow.

I think if you play hard mode then it's only a matter of time before you're unlucky. I have a friend who is on well over 200 on Quordle. I think that's way more impressive than Wordle - too much chance to get unlucky every once in a while, whereas with Wordle (not hard mode), if you play to not-lose then you probably won't.

A fairly unremarkable 4th try for me this morning. I had to put it down and have a cup of tea between guesses 3 and 4 though as I'd gone a bit blind thinking one letter had to be in a certain position when it didn't.
