The original game had a public list of about 2,500 words that the developer's wife recognized (I think she spoke English as a second language). That would make it easy for people to keep track of used words and cross them off the list. I think the NY Times has added to the original list.

Seems strange to complain that perfectly cromulent words are being used just because you don't get them. Kwijibo, outwith its length, would draw legitimate condemnation, but surely you are savvy enough to realise that omega and its like are actually genuine words?
