Using windows 7 and Word 2010. Not sure why but menus/toolbar are missing. When I go into Excel/PPT menus are visible, but not in Word.
Any clues?

View - toolbars - add the ones you want and make sure you lock them?

Can you post a screen shot? Is the whole toolbar missing, or just the 'ribbon'?

Right-click up above the document window, (but below the application window) you should get a context-sensitive menu with options what Word 'tools' are displayed.
Emphasis on 'should' ...
