Bought a Clearview stove that's in need of some TLC.
Firstly, anybody know what sort of glue is used to stick the door seal on?
Secondly, it needs repainting as it's pretty scruffy and a bit rusty in places. I can get Clearview branded high temp spray - what sort of prep (bearing in mind they are made of plate steel and not cast iron) should I do prior to painting?
On our Aarow the door rope is held on with a glue that looks like PVA but I'm guessing isn't due to the temperatures involved. On ours there is a shallow indent that acts as a guide for the rope - just had to slap the glue in there, stick the rope onto it and leave to dry.
To replace the seals on the ash / bottom vent and door was about £15 for rope and glue I think. Certainly not a lot of money.
Oh, and as far as paint goes, I'm sure generic stove / chimney black paint will do the job but if you want to match any existing finish it's probably best to get the Clearview one. When we had ours fitted was told that a good brush with wirewool to clean up any flaking would suffice before repainting. Not sure how good a finish it'd give on a large area though.
sand blast?
I think/hope sandblasting might be a bit overkill. Rust seems (from pics) to be surface only - it's not been sat outside or anything like that.
Try ringing them? They have a showroom in Ludlow and they are based in Shropshire they should be able to offer some advice. Esse were really good when we had a problem with our stove, turned out there was a grub screw missing and as they are local to us we just popped round and picked one up.
