I swear by (and sometimes at) my accountant. Saves me far more than she costs. But well done for getting it done. It's a right old mare.

This is a payment on account for the following years tax bill (calculated as 50% of your current years bill) if you think you will not pay as much tax in the following year then you can ask for the payment(s) to be reduced.

The website had my GF in tears again. But she doesn't earn enough to pay an accountant. 🙁

In addition, this is "opt in" if you dont want to pay it simply tell them.

Thats why online is so good, its just a simple drop down box, yes do it or no dont

same here, completed mine today.

Out of interest how much do you think you'd have to earn before paying "someone creative" to do it would pay itself back?

It's not to do with how much you get paid, rather by what method are you paid. If you are an employee of a company and earn all your money as salary your tax is deducted at source and there is very little, if anything, you can do to reduce it. If you have other sources of income or own your own company then there are ways and means of getting "creative"
