Odd one... but I have this plug - and a second hand oven with three wires coming out of it - brown, blue and yellow/green stripes.

The stripey one is earth I know - that goes to the flat pin on the plug.

But where to the other two go?

The oven has a 'U' shaped copper bit connecting two connectors - one of which has the brown +ve wire coming from it.

The plug socket behind the cooker has actually got a 5th pin hole in the middle (round).

Any ideas?! Or should I accept that I have to call in help to wire a plug!

Are you in France?
When connecting up you need to ensure that the switches for the elements are in the live side not the neutral.

I'm more concerned about your hand, it looks massive, is that a genetic disorder, and where are you going to get oven gloves to fit that?

Right ovens...you need to check he rating of the oven s most cannot be run off a ring main in the Uk. They need a dedicated supply at a higher rating. A conventional oven point has the main feed switch and an aux 240v socket. sometimes the feed for the oven comes out of a fused spur (as you describe it hole) where a cable would exit (to the oven). I assume the rating is lower on this oven looking at your plug. That does not look BSI uk standard to me.

As regards cabling yes green/yellow is definitely the earth. Originally single phase supply was red for live and black for neutral. New uk std then went to Brown for live and Blue for neutral.

yep - this is france.

the odd shaped plug is a high power one. the oven needs 25amps.

I'm off to the DIY store 🙂

Cheers!
