[Closed] Will anyone admit to being a middle-lane hog?

I think everyone agrees on that. The rub comes in deciding what constitutes overtaking.

Ummm, passing another vehicle? It's not that complicated is it? In Australia (where I'm from) all freeways have regular signs saying 'Keep left unless overtaking'. I think they'd do well to implement the same here rather than untold millions on pointless carriage widening when the inner lanes are empty.

I must confess I didn't read four pages of discussion on overtaking... My main point was that regarding HGV's, which I don't think had really been raised. Hit me with another eye rolling thing, love it...

Another one that bugs me is how people speed up to overtake you when you pull in to the inside lane.

For example, the outside lane is clear, inside lane busy, I am in the middle lane overtaking and there is a car behind me - not 'buzzing' me or attempting to go into the outside lane to overtake. However, when I pull back into the inside lane (keeping to the same speed), the car behind speeds up to overtake.

It just smacks of lack of concentration and an assumption that, as I am in the inside lane, I must be travelling more slowly and therefore they have to overtake.

(They usually then ram on the brakes when they realise they are quickly coming up behind traffic ahead).

MF - Yes, I think they want to close the gap so that they get where they're going quicker.

The notion that you can pass your driving test, then go on and have a life of incident free driving is simply ludicrous.
