[Closed] Why won't this page zoom on my ipad?

I mostly read this forum on my iPad, unfortunately with advancing years my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, so for most sites I pinch to zoom to make the text easier to read but for some unfathomable reason that feature doesn't work on the STW site.

Why?

Try to use desktop mode in the browser.

It's a design feature of the new site sadly.

On android you can use the device accessibility settings to force enable zoom, even on sites like STW that disable it.

Is there something similar on iOS?

Works in one browser for me but not in another. Can you try another browser? According to someone in the long thread about this it's one line of code to fix it. No idea why it hasn't happened if that is the case (actually I have conspiracy theory).

It's a design feature so that you can find the thread on Google but not read it ๐Ÿ™‚

OP what model iPad are you using? My Air 2 zooms fine. I wonder if it's due to retina displays? They report very high resolutions, so the rubbish responsive code being used probably thinks they're a desktop. Whereas the old ones lower res gets classed as a mobile device and zoom prevented.

I wonder if disabling zoom breaches the Equality Act? It would if this was a government website.

@bensales it's an early ipad, pretty old now, slow but still functional (mostly). Does n+1 apply to tablets?

@nickjb using Safari but it's the same in Chrome and Firefox

@Cougar thanks for the link. 15 pages!!! and yes it has been reported, not sure I understand the response though, something to do with Google and SEO but the ebay site zooms just fine so they don't see a need to disable it.

@cp I can't in iOS ๐Ÿ™

@cp Stop press. Yes there is a zoom feature ๐Ÿ™‚ I've found it now. Once turned on a 3 finger double tab (didn't even know that was a thing) zooms the whole screen and you can drag it around with 3 fingers. Problem solved, but I preferred the old way.
