Got GERMANY written across the front of their Olympic uniform rather than DEUTSCHLAND?

Often wonder why I bothered learning it the amount of English I hear used in general conversation.
Recently there was an interview. The woman said "ich möchte an my Team my Coach, my family und my fans thank you sagen."
Could ask the same question about China and a host of other nations who don't use the roman alphabet.
I thought this was about redrawing national borders. Why have Germany, when you can go straight from France to Poland?

French and English are the official languages of the Olympic Movement, along with the language of the host country. So I suppose it makes sense to pick one of those for better recognition by the average punters.
