I've only just made the connection, but it's definitely this site. Whenever I open it the fan kicks in, strongly at first and then steadies off, but it's on, always.

When I've not got this site open, it barely spins (it's a basically new, fairly s****y spec'd HP EliteBook), when I've got multiple Excel, Visio, SharePoint, Teams etc sessions going, other sites open in various tabs etc etc.

I'm guessing the ads, right? It's Edge, FWIW (and yeah, I know, but it's a work laptop and I can't change it).

When people are looking for buying advice on computers they always say 'its only for browsing the internet' but 'the internet' seems to be one of the most processor hungry tasks computers seem to need to do.

I got a P because it was cheaper than a new laptop.

He's right you know. If I go on the site without being logged on it basically kills my 2010 macbook. I don't know how the ads are so memory hungry.

Because this site is a petri dish of advertising and data mining.

It's easily the most resource hungry site I've ever used. Even with a 300Mbps connection and a decently powerful PC it used to make my work PC unusable. Yes a P fixed it.

Yeah it crucifies the battery on my MacBook Pro. The solution is to not have the forum open at all.

I was wondering the same thing too. What is it about the ads on here that eat up processor compared to other sites?

I find they really make the Bay Trail come alive.

So true, I have a couple of old laptops I was trying to use for daughters schoolwork but internet browsing is just impossible. It's like optimisation just isn't a thing any more.

And yes, STW ads are a complete resource hog.

Even with a P I had to get a new phone to use the site. Everything else I wanted to use the phone for it coped fine but STW basically killed it.

It has for me. There is something particularly resource heavy about STW ads for some reason. On Chrome it's even worse.
