Mine or my brotherinlaw's?
He has an email I didn't send that says it is from me, advertising some property company in the US.
no one else in my contacts has it.
Not sure which one of us needs to be worried?
you, they're relaying through your mail provider.
or they've spoofed you as the 'from'.
could have hacked something else eg one of your Linked In or Skype accounts etc and got the email address from there......
Could be either, both or neither (but if I were to guess I'd say you).
I'd be starting with a malwarebytes scan on any PC either of you use and then changing email passwords.
Its someone who has both of you in common.
Kevin Bacon?
Smudger666 - MemberMine or my brotherinlaw's?
He has an email I didn't send that says it is from me, advertising some property company in the US.
Is he sure it's actually from you?
A mate of mine sent me a message recently saying he'd received a weird message from me & thinks that my e-mail address must have been hacked.
But no one else had & there didn't seem to be any weird activity on the account.
Upon further questioning, it turned out the first bit of the address was 'my' e-mail address but the rest wasn't.
So, if my actual e-mail was "myemail at yahoo.com" for example, the e-mail he received was "myemail at notyahoo.com" with "myemail" set-up as the name, so the header of the mail looked like it was sent by me.
thanks for the replies - scanning with malwarebytes reveals nothing so far.
