Who knew pressure washers could be addictive?

So Santa brought me a pressure washer for Christmas, never had one before so after reading a few recommendations on here he kindly sent me a Nilfisk core 150.

thought I would give it a Whirl the other day. We have a fair bit of moss on the concrete path around the back of house so that was the test run. Wow, cleaned it all off no bother. Then it started….Hmm those gutters look a bit dirty I wonder..pow, all clean. Next, the fence has a fair bit of algae on it….zap and it was gone. Ok I now need to do the other side of the fence too to match it up. Hmm, since I did the path at the rear I guess I should do the front too. Ok, since I have done the paths the drive now looks odd so guess I need to do that. Right, since I have machine/hose all the way to the bottom of the drive I might as well do the grubby looking wall, ok now I need to do the footpath out the front of the house as it’s thick with moss…..hmm I have cleared a lot of crap out onto the road now….NO! FFS stop man, do not power hose the bloody road! I didn’t. Time to pack it away, oh but the aluminium ladder that sits by the fence is all covered in algae, maybe just one last zap….. 2 days! 2 days at it!

anyone else find them bloody addictive?

today, I am going to try it on the car, one of the main reasons I got it. Somebody stop me!

Go a little bit cautiously with that. My neighbour set about his car some years ago, and the paint began to pop off some of the plastic parts (front bumper, mainly). He stopped, pronto. It was an N-reg Escort, mind, so it's admittedly fair while back.

Don't store it anywhere it can freeze. Ask me how I know

Someone advised me to run the pump with no supply hose attached after use to prevent ice destroying it. I run it without the lance until it splutters to avoid running it dry, which is also bad obviously. Not had a problem with ice.

Get rid of the lance it came with and buy one of these (or similar)

https://amzn.eu/d/bEiKpiN

My lance still gets used for occasional jobs but cleaning the car with this with the correct pressure nozzle fitted is so much easier with the added benefit of knowing the pressure is right to make damage unlikely. See also bikes.

Have you got a Snowfoam Lance? That's the only thing I use mine for on the car, and that's really therapeutic.

yep. I have always hand washed my cars and never seen the need for snow foam, however, now I have tried it it is quite satisfying.
today I used bilthamber auto foam then autoglym polar wash followed up with polar seal using the autoglym polar blast cannon and am very happy with the results. Might look at getting one of those stubby guns.

I think all Nilfisk have (had??) metal pumps unlike cheap Karchers that had plastic pumps that went pop at the first sign of frost.

Second the patio cock and balls

Only word of warning (who also loves to jet wash and has a Nilfisk) repeated washing of concrete surfaces does strip the surface and the same for mortar on the walls. You can also force the algae into the concrete!

I now use wet and go some weeks before and afterwards, kills the moss and the algae so washing is faster and less damaging. Keeps things cleaner for longer.

Wait until you buy your first 10cm rechargeable chainsaw! When i take my Stihl GTA 26 out of the shed, the shrubs look worried. The Christmas tree gets it this weekend. Anything is fair game.

Ah time to get the shredder out this weekend, much fun (and noise), thanks for the Christmas tree reminder.

Wife's colleague offered her kids (9 & 12) a fiver if they could chop up the Christmas tree small enough to fit in the brown bin with pruning saws - two hours of outdoor exercise for the kids.

I do love pressure washing stuff. The car gets washed more since I got the snow foam attachment.

Professional pressure washing videos are a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. And garden clearing videos. I have issues with men getting their impressive tools out

Got a shredder/muncher - great fun. All goes back into the garden, but our indoor tree is plastic.  We have a 20ft plus real Christmas Tree in the front garden.

Fell into the 18v rechargeable chainsaw stuff a year ago - already had a big mains one and a mains extendable chain saw. The 18v has lead me down a new path with new drills, multi tools and sander.....

Dont pressure wash the fence- it forces water into the timber & speeds up rotting

Use the chain saw to cut up the fence instead!

Have the Makita equivalent, awesome bit of kit, especially for chopping up a few smaller silver birches to lay across a bog fest.

HOWEVER, they are a little bit too manoeuvrable when up a ladder and taking off branches a bit tooclose to myself 😬

That sounds both sore and also an unnecessarily public place to be washing your cock and balls.

10cm ?? I take it you've not seen Stihl latest ?(GTA40), which is 150mm and uses two batteries. Built in oilier and variable speed.

I've the hedge cutting one(HSA26). Which is pretty darn good for small jobs like trimming off the little straggly bits in prep for winter.

My sister borrowed it and did a 30'L x 8/9'H fir tree hedge on a single charge which is fair going.

Shame I forgot to tell her to wipe the resin off at the end of use. I needed a wire brush and thinners to get it clean again 😫

If you're doing the car get a decent foam cannon, and some good quality high foam caravan/boat cleaner (cheaper in bulk vs "car" specific foam).

Sone power that washer has- it’s taken the limbs off of that tree

I nearly bought one a few weeks ago but was pointed in the direction of a Silky pruning saw which is very, very good.
Glad I didn't get the baby chainsaw.

Oops, bought a reciprocating saw to go with the 18v chainsaw and new drills. Anything to make the job of keeping the cherry trees behind our house under control. I wonder if there is an 18v Brush cutter from Bosch ?

Ours gets chopped into teenytiny bits to use as kindling in the log burner, leave it in a cardboard box over the summer to dry, works a treat.

I'm lucky boring enough to have two pressure washers, a mains one for the patio and drive and an 18V cordless one for the car and bikes.  Both are Ryobi.

My mains powered Karcher pissed me off so much I just binned it, the pump worked fine but it constantly leaked from the hose connections and the stupid little yellow grommets that secured the different attachments used to constantly wear and get completely stuck. Garbage.
