If I was worried about what everyone else thinks, I'd be happier in a white anything than a BMW of any colour.
Had a white A4 with big wheels and the go faster bits. It looked the business. Showed dirt less than you would imagine, scratches and stone chips didn't show.
Got a metallic black 5 series now and it shows every scratch, mark, stone chip, kiddie finger print, the lot. Hate the colour and am never having anther black car. Flat red next time....

Black is certainly worse for showing the dirt than white.
Silver is the best for not showing the dirt. Vauxhall did a titanium silver that was sort of a metallic general dirt colour.
Mister P - nice clean car, but doesn't it eat rear tyres as the camber on those rear wheels is something else!
white is fine, i used to have a white volvo, it was the quickest car ever for getting home down the A1 at rush hour, especially if i wore the hi viz vest, i think many people may have thought that a white volvo was the rozzers as thats what they used in those days.
*rozzers* is in no way intended as a derogotary term btw, just in case it has another meaning im unaware of.
Silver is the best for not showing the dirt.
The downside to this being that it makes cleaning your car much less satisfying.
