in fortunate position of having a company car and shortly ordering replacement. the way our scheme works we get money back/pay extra depending on 'options'. I discovered that if I go for non metallic I could save £13 a month net..... don't know if i could stomach a white car(BMW) for 4 yrs though - are they as chavish as i suspect ?

I've had two white cars. Both were fine and I couldn't really give a toss what someone else thought.

Perfectly happy to have a white car, or silver, especially if it's German; traditional racing colour, see. 😀
Edit] Cooler in hot weather, too.

Mother in law has just picked up a little suzuki in white.... looks quite cool.
White 4x4's look like ambulances to me.
Personally I like the look of some of them but not sure I'd want to own one mainly because we live on a country lane 😉

I've had 2. Both VWs. Never again! White can look nice but it's a BIATCH to keep clean.

Still, much preferable to grey or silver.

hmmm. current car is metallic blue and is a mess due scratches etc, ok it's not mine, but still like to keep it reasonably tidy. Was thinking white at least won't show scratches etc too bad ?

If not white then would probs end up with some form of silver/grey...

If you like to clean your car every weekend then go for it - it'll look great. If, like me, you clean it once a year, then don't - there's nowhere for dirt to hide on a white car like there seems to be on other colours.

Mine is white, by the way. I wish I'd bought red - there's more to life than cleaning and polishing cars!

I've got a white car - looks brilliant I think (Citroen DS3). Depending on what you drive through, it will either not look too grubby or look pretty manky. Most dust and stuff in the summer is light in colour so you don't notice it (but would on a black car). But in winter, it can get a bit grubby round the wheel arches. If you can get it with any black accents (wheels etc) then they tend to look better. Mine has a black roof and black wheels and looks ace (well, I think so....)

They show up dirt more, but on the other hand they hide scratches and scuffs much better imo.

Also brighter colours are more noticeable and hence people are less likely to not see you and cause a crash. I reckon, anyway, and it's one of those things people say that fewer red cars are involved in accidents (followed by other bright colours). Never heard it properly investigated though.

To answer the OP, yes, I would. I like them, especially with black trim rather than shiny. I think it's my favourite colour of new Prius and if I found £23k I might get one.

I have a white car (alfa 159 SW). Needs washing right now but I did 2000 miles in it last week so that's only to be expected. When I've been driving around town it doesn't "feel" like it gets dirty much quicker than my last car which was deep red.

I'll clean mine on Sunday then take a comparison pic a week later as now I'm interested to see whether I'm just being willfully ignorant about the dirt on my car.

ianc - white can look nice!

Are you going for same as before / new version? They certainly look good in white.

Used to have a sporty Pug 309 in white - looked good with a sprinkling of black trims etc.

White isn't as bad as everyone makes out with the dirt either. Summer dust (ok, so that's a distant memory) doesn't dirty a white car anything like as much as a black one...

Don't get a black car - nightmare in the summer as it absorbs heat and is like a sauna when you come back from a ride. Just sold my black car - never again.

Girlfriends Father has an Audi in "Ibis White" Looks very nice, but it does have a slight metallic/pearl effect to it so not just flat white.

Its not this actual car but similar:

I've had all sorts of colours; black, grey, orange, silver and white...I can honestly say that the black looks amazing immediately after cleaning, but very quickly looks sh1te. White generally looks much better and IMHO doesn't show the dirt as badly as other colours...

liking the pearl white, but as per my OP, the base white is the 'free colour' so thinking I may well go for that..

heckler - I know, it's £624 over the 4 yrs i will have the car.... it's not so much about the saving though, just wondering about a white car as never had one before and whilst not particularly image conscious am keen to hear opinions 😆

White is the new (cheaper) silver. Waited ages for white to come back into fashion. Easy to match when you've scratched it and hand it back (silver is dreadful for this). Black always looks dirty, unless like Addison Lee, you have it washed daily at a Hand Wash near Heathrow.

White would be my choice. Far easier to keep looking good than black (or any other dark colour)

Dark colours show Swirl Marks and Holograming when clean. And if you don't know what you are doing when washing, or you take it to a car wash, it will have both very soon.

So with Dark colours, even when they are spotlessly clean, they mostly look crap (unless you know how to clean a car properly, and do it properly from new obviously)

You won't see those at all on a white car. So you can be a lot more relaxed about washing it, taking it to the car wash in winter etc.

Get the white one, and get a couple of coats of proper quality wax on it before you start, easy to clean then.

I use to work for an aggregate/concrete company and anyone with a company car that required site visits got a white one as they didn't show the dirt, when they left - all trucks went through the wash.

If it's coming from a lease company, it usually works our free to have metallic paint on a BMW as it adds to the residual value. I've leased a few and that has always been the case.

Oddly enough, white adds even more to the resale value if it's an M-Sport model so should be cheaper still!

My mate works for BMW GB and gets a new car every 6 months - every single one has been a white M-Sport as they're the ones the sell on the easiest and for the most money.

All my cars have been white L reg whenever that was, white cars just go offwhite when dirty, black cars show every spec of dirt and are a pain to clean as the bits you miss don't show until the car dries.

We've currently got a Smart, Yaris and T4 all white BTW.

nowt screams "prat" worse than a white Audi with the "look at me" LED DRLs. It's the new version of the old "BMW Driver" syndrome

my first three cars were white, but they were Renaults & it was over 20 years ago, so that doesn't count.
