I was looking at which dram to buy for the festive period & I have been lucky enough to have been given a bottle Laphroaig 18 Y/O before now but I was looking for something a little milder on the pallet, I was looking at the ten Y/O & came across this this website, check out the first review & the subsequent replies, it makes great reading.

As a side note I bought a bottle of 10 Y/O Glenmorangie in the end & I think I may have made a mistake 🙁

Cheers, Hic!

Glenmorangie is too far the other way

Glenfiddich 15, Aberlour, Balvenie double wood are all good. Tasty but a bit smoother

On a serious note the 18 is much milder than the 10

Was in the whisky shop myself today, also decided what to get. Decided to go with a 12-year old Caol Isla in the end.

The master of malt guys are a good bunch, I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

On to your selection, I'm not a huge fan of pleated whisky, I did have a strangely addictive bottle of Ben Raich 15 given to me though.

If peat is your thing then you may not be totally satisfied with a Glenmorangie although it is a nice enough dram for what it is. Am certainly with Jools on the Balvenie Doublewood (although I found their signature a bit dull) and also Aberlour, the 10 is lovely and even pops up in Sainsburys for £20 occasionally, I'm actually drinking a glass of it as I type :o), the older they get the better they are too and while the Batch 38 (etc) may sound eye-wateringly strong it's a good drink.

When buying a bottle from MoM I tend to get a few drams of other whiskies I like the sound of at the same time - saves spending a load of money on a bottle I may not enjoy - check out drinks by the dram.

Spending Christmas with a mate. Decided to try whisky again after previous efforts. Gone for Glenmorangie, now worried by jools' comment

Warning about Laphroaig- just because it tastes exactly like 3-in-1 oil, doesn't mean you can lube your chain with it.

There was bugger all left in Sainsburys today, so I ended up with a bottle of bog standard Glenfiddich. Can't complain I suppose!

I was given a bottle of The Famous Grouse yesterday, good enough to mix with coke. I have my eyes on a bottle of Jura that my old man has I've not tried that yet but I have heard its nice. I know that Mrs_Ache has got me something special for Christmas but I'm not sure what it it. Only 3 sleeps till I find out.

On another note.. If you fancy something a little special for the whisky lovers, try the Bladnoch whiskey website. The forum bottlings are certainly the best that I have ever had, they are all cask strength... Got a nice glen spey 21yr @ 52.4 % Mmmm

I'd rather drink fox piss than the famous grouse!

My Dad informed me last night that his whisky club have made a decision; the cask of Bruichladdich that they own is being bottled next year. My hand shot up faster than the Space Shuttle 😆

Famous Grouse + Canada Dry + some fresh lime is the way to go. I've not tried substituting the Grouse for fox piss. At the risk of being shot down, Grouse is drinkable on its own but clearly is no malt.

What's that you say, Famous Grouse, Canada Dry and lime. Do they make a similar concoction for men? In quite a few pubs here in the NE of Scotland people have been killed for less. On the other hand sporting such a libation they may mistake you for a lady and like the look of your pretty mouth.
