Youtube enhancer is a plug in for firefox (and I think chrome) that does loads of awesome things, including ripping. Loads of options.

realplayer lets you download youtube video's.
Unfortunately the latest versions of firefox, realplayer and flashplayer don't play nicely together so I've had to turn it off.

I think I used "download helper" back when I had cause to do it, about a hundred years ago.

keepvid site is great or video2mp3 if you just want the audio

Type "keep" before YouTube in the address bar while you've got the vid you want loaded. 🙂
