Hi,
after weeks of looking for car insurance i gave up and looked at vans ive been quoted £1500 for these by the NFU
Vauxhall Combi Merit 1.7 diesel
Citroen Berlingo 600 van
Ford transit 80swb Diesel
Ford Fiesta Courier Diesel
they all average around £700-£800 to buy
but i know nothing about them which one will do more mpg? and which are more practical? and which is more practical for a bike van/work van? size doesn't bother me as ive been driving big vehicles for years around the farm
cheers Tom
Clearly the Transit will be the least economical (bigger), and the Courier will be the worse to drive (just because they're horrid when new), so I'd go for the Berlingo. It's car-like to drive, is easily big enough for bike transport duties, and is very robust.
Of the three smaller ones the Berlingo is the more modern design and is a van from the ground up, not a box welded to the front end of a car, so you get nice things like a side loading door. If you're tall you might find the old shape combo's uncomfortable.
For the money you've got to spend just try and find a well looked after example of any of them though.
