Kids all want iPads for Christmas. They've had Hudls and broken the charging plug in all of them and got their cash back. Which one would you recommend and where from? Anywhere better than John Lewis? I'm looking at getting three of the bad boys, so will be skint for the foreseeable future.

Lucky kids !!! I'd say base model iPad Mini Retinas on a cost basis. If they complain about storage tell them to get a life.

Look for discounts this Friday, the UK is now copying the US with post Thanksgiving Black Friday sales. Check if the kids are eligible to student discounts (not sure if iPads are included)

Just remember, you can get cheaper Android tablets without plugs that break. Doesn't have to be Apple.

I predict someone will boggle at someone spending that much money on Christmas presents on the first page of this thread.

They can do that if they want. I'm in a position to spend a fair bit of cash on the kids this christmas which is something I haven't been able to do for a long time.

I'd get the Mini 2 - £240 from Apple, you might find it a bit cheaper elsewhere but not by a huge amount.

It's an interesting conundrum isn't it? I could get Nem Jnr the really big Lego set he desperately wants but in many ways, I think it's better that he doesn't get it and learns that some things are too expensive. The easy option is certainly to buy it and TBH I'd love to see him get it as his excitement would make me really happy but I wonder then if that's more for me or his benefit...

Anyway, for buying three, I'd be looking for where will offer free accessories, etc if you really must have iPads as I don't think that there are many places that really discount much on the iPads themselves. Mind you, I'd go for Androids as suggested by molgrips - most don't have dodgy plugs 🙂 and it'll leave you some spare money which you could always spend on them in different ways (days out, etc)

Argos seem to have the regular Ipad Mini (16Gb wifi) for £199 at the moment, both the white and black (Slate?) ones.

Bought ours ipad minis each last year, both still got them and both love them immensely. However both also have cracked screens. Still work fine but I guess my point is get them the basic one.

Lots of griffin cases for about 10-15 quid on Ebay, would defo recommend figuring the cost in for kids, has saved lives in my house on several occasions. I don't know much about the £25 accidental damage cover at john lewis though

john lewis defo worth it for the extra warranty (3 years at the moment) - had to take my eldest daughters in after the home button stopped working after just under two years and it was replaced with a brand new one within the week

- you may well even be able to get them to price match the current £20 off offer at currys: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/ipad-tablets-and-ereaders/apple-ipad/apple-ipad-mini-2-16-gb-silver-21399864-pdt.html#cat-0

personal opinion, but I wouldnt touch ebay for an ipad - far too many scams and a nightmare down the line if you get a problem/warranty issue
