It might be worth looking at Blue Ray players as well as most have media facilities as well.

I have a Sony unit that has I-Player and Channel 5.

ITV and Channel 4 are apparently on the way (have been for months).

A PlayStation 3 is also a pretty good media device

A good PC with a TV card in, a shite load of hard drives and wireless keyboard with track ball.

Agreed, My PS3, My Sony Blu Ray Player and both Sony TV's do iPlayer and the like, although it's still not a huge choice of TV. They can do media streaming too, so you can watch video or listen to music from my desktop PC. We just have ours plugged in with a cable into one of those powerline adaptors. Works well. I think the Blu Ray player was £90 from play.com

That's what I have, but it's a PC, with all the updates, virus protection stuff (yes I know you can use Linux). Plus you need to spec quiet fans and drives, which isn't impossible but just added hassle.
That LG ST600 looks pretty neat, anyone with experience?

+1 for ps3, stick ps3 media server on your pc also and your ps3 will be able to play alsorts of downloadable goodness on your tele. 🙂 I definitely use mine more as a media/blueray player than a gaming machine(although battlefield does get played fairly regularly, soon to be battlefield 3 which looks immense!).

Blue ray is a really good idea, could loose the dvd player and upgrade like that, I'd need surround system / blueray and dvd atpogether though

You could also look at an appleTV. Mine is jailbroaken and xbmc installed. I now have iPlayer and [the very brilliant] icefilms installed.
Tiny box, max 20w when in use (6w in standby) and works great.
