and whats the correct way to go about naming it to get the most google hits? a mate of mine mentioned Blogger.com but are there any others i should look at? i'm a complete newbie. It'd be great if i could get some examples of other people's blogs - it's not going to be a mountain biking site, it'll be a science news blog which takes breaking research and digests it into something a bit more interesting and easy to read, hopefully with some nice diagrams and stuff. Although if it goes well i might make another one for MTB diaries but we'll see. so any advice?

Tim

Wordpress and Blogspot are the two I've used.

Started off with a blogspot hosted site, then moved to wordpress but host it on my own space now - it's here

They're both fairly decent.

I still use blogspot - I have no knowledge of html, so I do occasionally find it's a pain but the template works well for me and is customisable to a decent extent.

It often takes a bit of shuffling and rejigging to get the spacing right - pictures mysteriously move around when I go to publish my latest entry...

Anyhoo, here it is if you fancy a gander (wedding and landscape photography content).

Wordpress. There are two versions, wordpress.com where everything is free and simple, hosting and back up included, but you are restricted in terms of adding clever content like javascript etc for security. Wordpress.org is the other version, they provide the software (looks and works the same as .com but you can get more clever with it and add chat applications etc) and you use it with your own hosting, same as if you set up a website.

You can start with .com and then transfer your whole blog over to the .org software on your own hosting once your happy with it.

Our blog is top of the google results page is you type our name in, if you have lots of other people linking to you, that helps you get to the top of the page 🙂
