Lots of people on STW, lets see where the most populated riding areas are..
I live near to the DOG on Cannock Chase.

My driveway is a quarter mile long gravel strewn downhill with a bermed corner leading to some super trails. From door to trail = width of doorstep.

Guisborough woods is 15 mins away by car, Dalby is 30 mins by car.

Random trails on the North York Moors are a 20 minute ride from my front door

Ah - you mean a purpose-built trail centre?? That would be Glentress then.

My new years resolution was to avoid riding trail centres and ride local trails. Last nights 3.5 hour night ride was on wooded trails in and surrounding Kirkcaldy. Way more challenging than most 'trail centres'.
Driving time = not riding time.

Define Trail. I've just come back from a three hour nightride from my door but it's not something people would travel to do.

Its just a location thing - whos spoiled for choice etc. Some MTB'rs are isolated from any trail centres and others such as Dyls have lots to choose from..
My nearest ride is the DOG at Cannock Chase, next nearest is probably Llandegla 50 miles away...

I'm about 30 - 35 miles from Carron Valley, Glentress and Blairadam.

Can be offroad in 20 metres from the door and now it's sort of like Spring, can ride for a couple of hours, without using more than a few hundred metres of road at a time and with very limited repeats. And I reckon about 2/3rds of that would be on singletrack.

I like where I live.

I can make a longish ride out of Stafford along old railway line, canal, country lanes and back home along a different canal - takes 3 hrs and burns legs - other than that off piste trails on the chase..

There is something infinetly rewarding in finding or being shown some new trails on your doorstep. I've met some great new riding pals who live within a 10 mile radius of home. They each know and ride trails on their dorsteps, so a network of 'local' trails becomes even bigger.

A couple of years ago I'd think nothing of driving the 100 mile round trip to Glentress most Wednesday nights. The prospect of driving that far to ride a 'trail' centre fills me dread now

Trail centres are ok - like at the moment a lot of Cannock Chase is quarrantined unless you stick to the fire tracks -due to a fungal desease, this does not affect the 'follow the dog trail' so we can at least still get out and ride..
