HI all, after a new compact camera.
Currently have a Canon G12 camera, which is great, but it's just a bit too big and cumbersome. Usually gets chucked in my rucksack and forgotten about or I can't be arsed to fish around to use it. So I'm after something nice and compact, but still provide decent pictures.
Ideally small enough to stuff in a pocket or atatch to the rucksack shoulder straps.

Any suggestions?

Canon S95 / S100 / S110, whichever is in budget. Especially if you like the G12.

Can't go wrong with an Ixus, if the S-series ones are out of budget.

Else something like this: http://www.trustedreviews.com/olympus_Digital-Camera_review or this: http://www.trustedreviews.com/nikon-coolpix-aw100_Digital-Camera_review may suit, especially if they're going to be used in the rain or dropped in the mud.

I got one of those Panasonic Lumix FZ something or other 16mp cameras with a 16gb memory card for £90 just after Xmas, it's fab, light, easy to use with big screen and takes good videos too. Sorry can't remmeber model number it's not with me now

Canon s110 or Nikon p310. Or Panasonic TZ30 if you want a bit more reach with a longer zoom?

Have a look at the LowePro Apex AW cases. Attach really well to a pack, although I also use a back-up karibener (spelling?, soz)....

Thanks for the advice folks, been having a look and seen a few ideas.

Canon Ixus 240- smallest by quite a way
Panasonic TZ30- slightly outside of budget
Panasonic TZ25
Sony DSCHX10VB

What do you reckon would be best?

Canon SX230's are about £120 these days in Dixons, Currys etc. were IRO£180

Not a bod camera, I got one duty free a couple of years back as I recall it "tested" well in a magazine along side others of a similar cost.

Huge zoom on it, very pocketable. GPS is handy if you like to Geotag etc.

i use a sony tx5 for this purpose, its small waterproof, tough etc, preety good for a tough camera, but the canon s100 would take better shots and manual controls etc, thats where my money would go.

It's great, brilliant camera if you don't want to carry or need a DSLR.
Gives superb photographs with the ability to use it fully auto or fully manual, certainly more camera than I really need. Large buttons/dials mean it easy to use when wearing gloves (even thick winter climbing gloves).
My only issue is the size, use it mainly when riding/climbing but it's just too bulky to have attached to a rucksack strap as it gets in the way. So it lives inside my pack and either I miss the shot due to getting it out, or I can't be a***d getting it out.

If you're interested it would include camera (obviously), spare battery (so 2 in total), cables/charger, a berghaus waterproof case, neck strap, but no memory card

E-mails in profile if you're interested

Would the TZ30 be £30/£45 better than the S9300 or HX10V (I'm hovering over the Sony)?

I had much the same issue with my g10, great camera but just a bit too big. I went for a canon s110 instead and have no complaints, brilliant little camera, digitalrev had them going pretty cheap before Christmas, might be worth a look.
