So either Covid 19 or 'a bit of a chill'.
Without testing, we'll never know.

Lots of very decent people out there.
Surley this should be paid work, many 1000s, millions? of people in hospitality, retail, etc are losing or just about to lose their jobs
It's aimed at people who they can train up quickly, academic researchers/lab techs, former employeers, pharma people. People with a bit of experience in labs, clean rooms, bsl-3. Retail workers won't be put to work as easily or quickly.

There is a lot of confusion but since Friday at least it’s been use the 111 website. Our staff ring their manger for advice and they use the PHE guidance for advice.
He also just told every business and employee in the hospitality industry that they're on their own. No support, no advice, no incentive to shut up shop, nothing. This is going to blow up massively.

I came down with a cough and cold on Saturday so have been stuck inside on my own since then. Girlfriend has left some food at the front door but other than phone calls, nowt. To make matters worse, I got made redundant before Xmas and this week was a big week for interviews that have now all been cancelled.
Today has been the worst so far, the ache in my legs and back is horrid. On the flip side I’ve got plenty of bog roll and I’m not a fan of pasta.
As someone with ‘it’ (in theory - I’ve not been tested), there does appear to be a ridiculous amount of panic about. The flip side being the joke threads that just aren’t funny and not much comfort when you’re stuck in a house on your own every day.

In my town schools are shut but some of them are staying open for medical staff children.

My posts about the isolation experience are more this is what it's like at the real real tenuous bet it's really man flu I'm going to look foolish end. The Zwift experience was more me just trying to figure out where I'm at, it did dent me for a bit. Now trying to figure out if I should stick another 7 days on isolation - tasty rice here we come! Although the local cafe has just put out a we will delivery to isolators off the menu. Might yet be able to kick the can, or sachet, further down the road.

May have been posted but the simulator graphics near the bottom of the page give a good example of why we should be shutting down schools to slow the spread so a more managed approach with limited medical resources can be taken. And ensure sure there is a steady througput of workers that recover and get back to work.

Join the club. My 15 year old is absolutely freaking out at the prospect of not being able to go out with her mates and is in complete denial. Also we're almost definitely going to keep them out of school. The schools are going to close anyway, so I can't see any reason not to take them out now. Essentially we're going to tackle this as a family and whilst resigned to getting it at some point, we're going to try and avoid it for as long as possible. We'll go out for walks and do stuff together at the weekend away from others, and try not to kill eachother whilst at home. Going to be an interesting few months.
MrsMC and I are trustees for 3 kids charity groups. About 500 kids are going to have their plans, hopes and trips this summer ruined. Not sure where the three groups will be left financially, paid tutors will lose income, and volunteers may not come back if and when groups start up again

A friend of mine works for Glyndebourne Opera....they are facing cancelling the season, losing millions of pounds, and because it's "advised" not to go, no insurance pay out....threatens their existence. I know, it's elitist, posh, full of toffs etc etc. but they employ hundreds through the season, generating huge amounts for the local economy. I'm not one for conspiracy theories but it's hard not to imagine that the gov are only "advising" after getting input from their mates in the insurance industry, which is worth more than the entertainment industry

There’s been some talk of PHE taking in lab volounteers, it’s being organised by some PHE staff on twitter in various regions. Colindale openly started recruiting but must have been inundated as they have taken the ad down now.
After a bit of flip-flopping, we got confirmation today that testing is being much increased.
That means the 5 labs in my area will all send samples to one central lab (Preston) as oppose to Manchester where everyone in the NW is currently sending samples.
We have had an open request for voluntary overtime sent out so they can operate 24/7, they are expecting to test up to 1000 samples per day.
The only issue with that is the biomedical science staffing level has been decimated already and we already do a lot of overtime just to prop our own lab up.
There is talk of us bringing our testing in house, but I'm not sure how feasible that is. Apparently we had someone from the anti-terrorism squad call today to make sure we aren't doing testing as we may not be secure enough!! Don't think terrorists really need to bother releasing this as a bio-weapon now!!
