Me and my eldest are having a weekend in Madrid whilst the euros are on to watch a Spain and Portugal match in a bar and soak up some of the atmosphere.

Any recommendations on which central areas to stay in (links to air bnb properties or hotels welcome) and has anyone been on the Bernabau stadium tour?

Loved the bernabau tour. We used te open top tour bus to get there which was well worth the money. We stayed on the plaza de Santa ana in the sol melia. Nice place for beers, lovely hotel.

Spent a few years repeatedly going out to Madrid for work (stayed in Madrid but was out at the big Airbus site at Getafe)

I liked staying at the Vincci Soho - just a 3 min walk off Sol Plaza

Nice place - clean and modern. Quiet too.

If anyone's looking for super cheap we paid less than 70€ for 2 weekend nights at the ibis budget. It's about 10 or 15 minutes to most of the central stuff on the metro and is near the Rayo Vallecano stadium so should be some good bars for watching footy around.
