Google tells me apple dont really do the black friday thing. But certain stores that sell their products might.

So, where should i be looking? Or is this just wishful thinking and its gonna be near as dammit RRP?

Also refurbed at Hoxton Macs seems good - got my current MacBook Air from there 9 months ago. Indistinguishable from new.

Last year I bought my Macbook with a 10% discount from an apple reseller local to me

They have just put their 10% black Friday discount on again. At the time the difference between buying a refurb in excellent condition and new with discount was about £100

Another Hoxton-ista here. Great service, immaculately packed and indistinguishable from new.

Costco had some reasonable Mac offers last year, that's where the OH picked up one

We bought an Air about a month ago with 10% off on Amazon.

Id imagine prices will go up for Black Friday every where

Will need a new one soon and have noticed that none of them have cd players. Do they still do them ,if not is there a cunning plan?

What’s the last model that came with a cd drawer and does it still get updates?

I’ve just got a new M4 (24gb) Air for work.

Plugged into 2 monitors with an external keyboard and mouse, it’s a fantastic setup whilst light enough to hardly notice it when I travel a couple of times a month.

Refurb or just something off eBay (pick your seller sensibly and it's fine) has worked for me when we were aiming a bit lower than the top of the line stuff. Both for iPhones and laptops.

Recently got a lovely new ice-blue MacBook air (that I'm typing this on) and it's lovely. Also bought my mum a windows thing (it's what she knows) and it's night and day.

Nothing recent with a cd drive.

I bought a (genuine) used Apple SuperDrive to use with my MacBook Air. Only cost £15, Usb powered and works perfectly for ripping and burning CDs, etc.

They stopped selling then in 2016, around the same time we all stopped using cd’s

It's taken you 13 years to notice they don't come with 'cd' players. Last model with an optical drive was 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro.

As above, if you really need it, the answer is to get an Apple Superdrive. Apple stopped selling them last year, but loads available used for cheap. Nerd fact; At 16 years without revision or update, the Superdrive was the single product that Apple sold for longest without any change.

So buy now or pay more on black friday? The 10% off amazon deal is the best ive seen so far. Is this really likely to be as good as it gets and if i wait a couple of weeks its gonna go back up?

Crystal ball anyone?

I'd say that Amazon deal is about as good as it ever gets (unless you are OK with last-generation). There's really not much in the way of discounts available on Apple stuff nowadays. Back in the day you could get really chunky discounts via the education store if you were, or could utilise, a uni student/employee, but even that's only about 10% now.

Costco always has some discount on RRP (usually 5-10% on current models, more on older). Amazon prices go up and down, but rarely better than Costco.

Other than that, refurbs are an option. Either Apple direct or 3rd parties.

Know a teacher? They get a 10% discount from Apple Ed store (used to be more - think I got 20% when I bought an iMac in about 2011)

Yeah the Apple educational discount is steadily decreasing, I think I got 20% in 2008, 15% in 2015 and 10% last year.

Gotta keep those share prices up!

Right, thanks for the advice. I've just ordered one with 10% off from Amazon. Will no longer be looking at this thread just in case someone now rocks up with a better offer.

That's a steal.  Hoxton Macs are selling refurbs of that model for £800

Curry, John Lewis and others have that spec at £699 as well.

ah - just noticed the deals mentioned above are actually for the 2022 model which is an M2 chip.  The 2024 model is the M3, argos have those at £900

No one actually does Black Friday, and if you buy anything around November you'll be ripped off at worst, or pay the normal price at best.

All the big retailers have been gradually pushing their prices up for the last few weeks ready to announce big "discounts" at the end of the month.

Another vote for Hoxton Mac refurbs. I’ve had a couple off them and they were indistinguishable from a new one off Apple, but a lot cheaper

That 2022 M2 MacBook is also at John Lewis for £699 which gets you a 2 year warranty.

Current 2025 M4 Air for £760 here. reviews of the site all seem ok but that is unusually discounted for current model Apple.  I'd definitely be buying on a credit card.

had to be some reason they were so cheap.  It’s just a usb c charger now though. Sell the US Apple one on eBay, buy an Anker with appropriate power and you’ll probably make a profit.

Presumably it also has a US keyboard. I'd be annoyed.

(But the reviews on the page make it pretty clear it is US spec)
