Off to Chicago tomorrow, but have no idea where to eat for dinner. We're around the 'near North' area - anyone have any recommendations?

No idea. All I'll add though, after flying over it a number of times, is lake Michigan is really, really big. Way bigger than anything you may have experienced before other than the sea.
You may think Lake Windemere is big. It's not. Neither is Loch Ness. Think much bigger.
I went fishing on Lake Michigan and concur that is indeed much bigger than Lake Windemere.
It is also full of Cohoe Salmon and the odd Brown Trout. Yum.
.
The Cheesecake Factory in Chicago is good for a burger, a double bacon burger which is as big as a table and leaves no room for cheesecake, but it's ok as you can take it home in a box. Which is what you might be doing if you eat there too often.
You should try Gino's East for an authentic Chicago pizza while you are there. It's pretty no frills but the pizza's are regarded as the best in Chicago.
