Hello.
My Polish friends are flying into Edinburgh tomorrow for a week and I'll be with them for the weekend, driving them about.
Any recommendations on sights to see/museums to visit etc?
They'll be on a very tight budget, btw!
Thanks for any help given.

Cheers.

The botanic gardens was looking pretty good at the weekend, the rock garden in particular is quite impressive.

If you leave the botanics via the inverlieth row gate (east gate) then the nearby cafe 'circle' is highly rated, great americanos and some spectacular cakes.

Arthur's seat shouldn't fail to impress, nor would the braid hills out by the observatory.

If you want to be really cheap you can even sneak a free look at the zebras and ostriches in edinburgh zoo by climbing corstorphine hill which takes you behind their enclosure 😀

A week? - a long time in a city. Go up north too.

Many museums and art galleries are free - nice walk to GOMA from Stockbridge.

Pentlands.

Calton Hill & Nelson monumnet - or Scott Monument.

Porty beach

Thanks for the info folks, much appreciated.
It'll be public transport for them when I'm not there.
They're staying in the High Street Hostel on Friday night then are looking to book-up for the rest of the week somewhere similarly cheap. Iffy on a BH weekend, maybe ...

1. Don't drive into the city

2. The Museum of Scotland is free

3. The Castle is expensive, but worth it

Arthurs Seat - from the Parliament, St Margaret's Loch, up over the summit, down the stone steps on the other side and around the top of Salisbury Crags. The best views of the city.

Crammond Island. Walk out across tidal causeway and explore the extensive WW2 fortifications and views of the forth and bridges.

Old town - just wander about, plenty of galleries and museums to draw you in.

From personal experience I wouldn't recommend going to a football match.

Take them over to Glasgow / Trossachs - they are virtually next door 😉

The museum on Chamber St is great. Arthur's Seat is lovely for walking.
