A friend of mine brought some seriously good chili relish over from Dubai a little while ago.

It was very dark, spicy as hell but very flavoured and aromatic.

I've searched the shops round here but haven't found anything that even looks similar.

Any recommendations?

Econa in its various flavours are ok, Frank's chilli sauce is nice and fruity without being too hit but i favour fresh chilli slices, then you can add flavour, a bit of fruit or whatever.

However I am lazy so I generally buy a bag of dried chilli flakes to spice things up with, but dried chili just doesn't taste as nice.

I think the key to a good chilli sauce is to think jam.. Add fruit and spices to to it.

Encona original for day-to-day spice needs, Encona hot for that little bit extra, and Tabasco Habanero for special occasions.

Plus some of the African voodoo juice!

I've always been very fond of Lingham's Sweet Chili sauce, I was introduced to it by a girlfriend years ago, and I try to keep a bottle handy all the time. Found a bottle of their Extra Hot a while back; I think it's going to last longer than the regular stuff...
I also buy bottles of dried chili flakes from Morrison's, and mix them in a pepper grinder with black peppercorns; I use them on pretty much everything that isn't sweet, soups, omelettes, sandwiches.

Cholula is my go-to, and encona hot pepper for cheese on toast. I've also usually got some sort of chipotle sauce around but no particular brand, best sourced from latin american food shops.

Just discovered gochujang from Korea. It's lovely but more of a paste than a sauce. Not super spice but lovely nonetheless.

Another vote for Econa.

And, love making my own.

I'm quite a big fan of Sriracha chilli sauce. Tesco do it in big bottles in their exotic food section. Strangely they sell it for twice the price in the next aisle beside the curry sauces and all that stuff.

Anything by Melinda has been great so far, Habanero mustard pepper sauce, Chipotle pepper sauce etc.
Her ketchups are pretty damned good, fruity with a good kick of chilli.

we have this stuff on burgers though we decant it into a glass jar from the stupidly messy upside down plastic dispenser.

though my favourite was the stuff they used at Bristol Student Union top floor late night burger bar back in the 1980's, used to drown the chips in the stuff 🙂

Used to be Dave's Insanity range, but local shops seem to have stopped selling them. Currently I just use a pepper mill with finely chopped dried reaper and scorpion chillis. That's only to add to cooking though. If you want something light, one stop do Louisiana for a quid, which is a nicer and hotter tabasco style. I'm not a fan of sweet chilli products (or sweet stuff in general).

Hawkshead chilli jam for sandwiches - by far the best of its type - try doorstep granary with Brie, chorizo, rocket and HCJ - blinking lovely! Flying Goose Sriracha chilli sauce with garlic for on the side duties - Tesco and Chinese supermarkets. Hot but not stupid - deep and flavoursome with a satisfying afterglow

Sriracha is great on Thai/Chinese/Stir Fry and the like but for anything else it has to be:

Spent my gap year in Belize where Marie Sharp is a national treasure, been hooked on it ever since, have to mailorder it in now but found nothing I like better.

Fiery hot for a nice mix of taste and heat, Green Habenero for a Tangy fruity number, Beware to blow mates heads off.

I'm 99% certain I saw that range in TX Maxx a couple of months back, if that helps any.

Oh, and,

A friend of a friend runs a local chilli sauce stall if you're looking for something a little "imported." http://www.chiliplant.co.uk/

EDIT - looks like the site's renamed. http://www.theflavouremporium.com/

Used to be Dave's Insanity range,

Oh yes! A guy at work had some that his pal had given him & a colleague took on the bet that he couldn't eat a teaspoonful. He did but he was ill for 3 days. (same guy has also eaten a dice sized cube of prison soap for a bet)
Richie van Vogel. Half Dutch, completely nuts!

Tried a few, but feel Encona is pretty good and obviously readily available. Kashmiri chutney from The Cherry Tree is ace, and also rate Trotters Chilli Jelly.

Just lent my bottle of Daves to a bloke at work who wants to prank his brother. Should find out the results later this morning haha.

Was looking at where it lies in the scoville scale. Its 180,000 apparently. Blairs did one that was a limited run that came in at 16,000,000 for a 1ml container full. Cost a flipping fortune.

Anyone able to get their hands on a chemical supplier? There's some spicy compounds out there.
16,000,000,000 Resiniferatoxin
5,300,000,000 Tinyatoxin
16,000,000 Capsaicin

Pretty middle of the road Frank's Hot Sauce in my house, everyone loves it (aside from Baby Jay of course).

There's a poncy, focaccia baking, quinoa bothering, artisanbobbings place near me. They sell lovely 'home made' (in a shop) Chilli Jam. I really like that, it comes wrapped in twine and in a recycled jar so you know it's over-priced but it's very nice.
