maybe just a thermal expansion joint doodah

As the prssure of the liquid or gas, causes a rise in temperature, as does outside heat, then expansion u joints have to be made, the pipes expand and close up slightly at the bottom, it also relieves stress along the pipeline.

I also reckon a thermal expansion joint or a flow control thingy.
I'm sure it has a proper name.
