MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Hi all,
Off to get rained on in snowdonia this weekend - can anyone recommend me an app that allows offline mapping (based on Open street map rather than OS)? I used motion X GPS on my old iphone but that doesn't seem to exist on Android.
Ideally one that will let you store the offline maps on an SD card.
Thanks!
back country navigator can cache open street maps (choose from the Worldwide map raster list)
Viewranger supports OpenStreetMap and OpenCycleMap offline.
iPhone and Android apps available.
Maps.me
+1 for Maps.Me.
You can download the whole country at once, and can be stored on the SD card. It uses vector maps, which makes a lot more sense than rasters, as it needs less memory, and you can zoom in as much as you want.
Can also do routing for car or foot, all offline.
Just downloaded maps.me - doesn't seem to have the level of detail i need for hiking / biking - e.g. no contours. Am I missing a trick?
I don't think there are any contours in the standard Openstreetmap.
OpenCycleMap has contours.
(It uses public domain height data from NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission)
