Am now the proud owner of a lovely leather wrapped hip flask and an imminent 4day trip to the Lakes, with bikes no less.
I enjoy a whisky every now and again but I'm not sure I want to carry half a bottle of the stuff.
Dark rum appeals.
Having never owned a flask before, I'm completely unaware of the etiquette involved too, if any.

Currently some home made slow gin, nice and sour.

Next, port and brandy mix.

Oof. Port and brandy doesn't sound like a 'top o the hill pep'.
More of a nightcap.

Drambuie is rather pleasant in a hip flask. Nicely warming.

I guess the other question is, what's the shelf life? Do you fill to the top? Must the contents be consumed within the duration of the trip? Do you take it to bed at night?

Perhaps take along some pop if you can't manage a "whole" hipflask full of whisky. 😆

I have a couple but I suspect the only one that has anything in it, has 20 year old Aftershock in it.

Laphroig just now,and I echo scotroutes sentiment. (Says the man who took a camelback bladder of malt and fitted bottle cages on one multi day trip.)

Are you hoping it will mature with age and taste better? 😆

Genepi, warming Alpine herby liqueur of champions.

As for etiquette; open, offer round, drink last. Hip flasks are for sharing.

I'm hoping after a hundred years or so it'll be safe to be disposed of without encasing it in lead.

Well said Scotroutes, but after nailing myself with a Camelback of JD (1l) and coke at Fort Bill WC a few years back, I'll be cautious not to repeat that fiasco. At least it was quali day 🙂

+1 for Drambuie, though sloe gin would also be a good shout. Got into the habit of carrying a flask from snowboarding, which by midweek would be whatever spirit we picked up in the nearest shop, meaning unexpected mouthfuls of chartreuse or limoncello sugar kicks
