I'm off tomorrow to work on Isle Of Wight for a month and am leaving the tv & computer at home on purpose.

Taking the DAB Radio & many books instead.

Any particular evening programs worth tuning in for, BBC6 will be my default station.

Radio 4 has some good comedy in early evening around 6:30, although the Victoria Coren whateverhernameis thing is a bit guff.

I find myself increasingly drawn to BFBS for a nice mix of music and it's interesting hearing the random announcements for various bases.

I'd just leave it on Radio 4. Not sure about evenings on 6 music. During the day though I'd tune in to Lauren Laverne... mmmmm Lauren Laverne 😳

R4 in the evening is definently worth it the range of topics covered is pretty good. The evenign plays get you sucked in starting with the Archers at 7pm 😯 did i just say that...

6Music is good after 10pm.

If I leave it on R4 i'll have to phone my dad and say he was right all along.

I hate that bit.

Any random commercial stations got good bits....between the ads?

+1 for 6 music
Esp Gideon Coe from 9 - great dj and music - my wife gets sick of all the scraps of paper with new (to me) band names scrawled on littering the kitchen for future reference.
How do people listen to commercial radio playing the same ole' dirge?

I've got some LEGO on mine.

Radio 4 Extra is ace.
Goon Show at 7 if you're lucky.

I prefer XFM to 6 music. Less ****y discussing of 'artists' and more music. It gets a bit samey after a while sometimes. Otherwise there's NME radio.

Adds XFM to list.

I assumed it was a Christian station with that name. 😀

Gilles Peterson on 6 music is, in my opinion, the best three hours of radio since Delbert Wilkins left the Brixton Broadcasting Corporation.

I used to cry when-in December- before my 20mile commute through Bridleway hell, I'd turn on the radio and... VANNESSA FELTZ! oh, woe.

Much lefty-love to be had for World Service. Worth it?

Any local Isle Of Wight...never mind.

And WHAT, exactly is wrong with The Archers?!!!?!!?

What with the dog fighting, the bizarre love triangle between Lillian, Paul & Matt, Pip the teenager from hell and Clarries recent abduction and replacement I've hardly had time to swear at Helen, Tom, Pat & Tony.

Planet Rock, Real Radio XS, Team Rock Radio.

Also, download Cabin Pressure - it's ace.

That's what Shazam's for!
[edit] The caveat is that really new stuff isn't always in the database, so the pen and paper still comes in handy sometimes.

😀

A searing indictment of broken Britain, passion amongst the polytunnels, rape, murder, organised crime and some very nice cakes?

DRIVEL????

I'll send Jazzer round with his shears if we have anymore of that nonsense.

As a callback to my previous "what hipster thread" i'll give The Archers a shot shall I.

I'm 26 working away from home on, essentially, a massive building site.

if you're not taking your computer but have a smart phone / mp3 player then go mad now downloading podcasts from R4 and others, build up a good back catalogue of listening.

From radio 4:
History of the World in 100 Objects
More or Less
Friday Night Comedy
Wireless Nights with Jarvis Cocker
The Infinite Monkey Cage
Comedy of the Week
Documentary of the Week (especially the Ben Goldacre one)

From elsewhere in the web/world:
Snap Judgement (theres literally days of listening in their back catalogue and its all top class)
99% Invisible
This American Life
Robin and Josie's Utter Shambles
Answer Me This
Freakenomics Radio
The Rouleur Podcast
VeloCast

Plenty of good riding to be had there!

chojin, 30 days on, evenings off but I'm not taking the Inbred. Precisely festival related, I was gonna take the BMX but that could mean daft injuries that affects work.

Edit: Let's call it a sabbatical.

A shame, the Tennyson trail is meant to be nice!
I'm working over there for 10 days myself in June.

IT and comms for me!

Rather stupidly, they've decided to place our portacabin right behind the main stage this year.

I'm going to leave deaf :/

*EDIT: Fences and floors? You have your work well and truly cut out for you! Fingers crossed its not a complete wash out again.

Done plenty graft on site but this is my first "Festival" job.

I'll have T In The Park right after and it's chak n' cheese.

I.O.W is the poshest festival by all accounts, ya.
Edit: Bring on the Sun. It's ok, we're ready for anything but i'd like at least a pikey-tan.

I concur - Having worked Boomtown last year, IoW Festival is almost civilised by comparison.

Boomtown and Wickham horse fair.

*shudder*

Nasty. Unless you're dancing at that end of the ballroom. In which case, good work!
